One thing that I will never full understand is the incuriousness of these people. If you show me a mob that just killed a guy my first question is going to be why? Turns out that information is almost always readily available. But they’re content with assuming the reason is racial hatred or something. That’s just not how people behave, yet it’s routinely accepted by otherwise intelligent people.

A person who commits a carefully planned and executed murder with an articulable motive is much less of a danger to the public than someone who murders at random because they’re crazy. Yet our justice system punishes the former much more harshly than the latter.
