We're finally in America! 🇺🇸❤️ We landed at LAX yesterday, then had a loooong bus ride to our new hometown. By the time we arrived around midnight, we were completely exhausted and went straight to sleep. We had no Wi-Fi on the flights, and our phones don't work here yet, so communication has been a bit of a challenge. Between navigating airports, keeping track of luggage, two children, and my mother-in-law, there wasn't much time to post. 😅 My husband did an amazing job keeping everyone updated whenever he could. Most importantly... we're safely on American soil. Looking back, I can honestly say that without God's hand guiding us every step of the way and without the prayers, love, and encouragement from so many of you, we wouldn't be here today. Thank you. ❤️🙏 Today we'll meet with our caseworker to start the mountain of paperwork, housing, Social Security, employment authorization, and everything else that comes with starting a new life. After that, we're hoping to explore our new area a little... ...and maybe finally find my husband's MAGA cap. 🤣 He's been looking ever since we left South Africa on Monday, but none of the airports or rest stops had one! Oh, and traveling nine hours back in time makes for a very strange 30-hour day. 😂 America... we're so grateful to be here. 🇺🇸❤️

@dogwoodblooms @soulriderSLM Love these guys so much. We had them nesting under our martin boxes at the horse farm. Our rat snake didn’t know what to do — the martins were bombing him, and the “easy” prey kept escaping. I snatched ol’ Alfred up to move him back to the feed room, and the martins came at ME!

Fun fact: You can find killdeer in every single North Carolina county. They got their name from the loud, unmistakable call that sounds an awful lot like they're yelling, "kill-deer!" They're also famous for making some questionable real estate decisions. Instead of tucking their nests into trees or shrubs, they'll lay their eggs right out in the open—gravel driveways, farm fields, dirt lots, and even parking lots. And if a fox, dog, or curious person gets a little too close? The mama bird puts on quite a performance, pretending to have a broken wing. It flops along the ground, acting like an easy meal, just long enough to lure the threat away from the nest before suddenly taking flight.
