@Jared_Carrabis @Sean_McAdam Try using some context to the full quote. He also isn't wrong. All the young guys are under performing on the hitting side.

How can you not love this team! Willson Contreras blaming the young guys for the lack of offense. Marcelo Mayer sticks up for the group while also placing the blame where it belongs. It’s everybody’s fault. @Sean_McAdam with the story: masslive.com/redsox/2026/05…

I find myself thinking about Garrett Crochet just overpowering a team one night and Ranger Suarez finessing them to death the next, quite a bit.

@bradfo A real #1 or #2 or a "Red Sox" #2, which covers just meh pictures like Sonny Gray who are affordable (ie cheap).

Hearing from sources outside Boston the Red Sox are getting aggressive in pursuing top-level controllable starting pitching in the trade market. Names floated as targets are no doubt No. 1 or 2.

.@JeffPassan on Baseball Tonight with @Buster_ESPN said the Red Sox missed out on Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso because they “weren’t willing to go to the place that other teams were” “We’ve seen the Red Sox in recent years, they try to operate rationally. Operating rationally, generally speaking, will not get you free agents. It is an irrational market, and sometimes you got to get a little irrational”

@ChrisCotillo Maybe because they cleared about 75 million in trading Devers and letting Bregman walk?

I think they will add a big bat and a secondary one and that the chances of a Bregman reunion (he'd be the bigger in a pair) increased today. The 2 of 3 Bregman/Alonso/Schwarber thing was never going to happen and I don't know why it took hold as a possibility publicly.

@DanBFox1287 It is like saying the Redsox wanted Soto. They did, they just didn't want to pay him which means they didn't really want him.

@DanBFox1287 He signed a 1 year deal. If he was wanted he would have gotten a long term deal. At the end it was Boston and Detroit or go back to Houston for even less money.

@DanBFox1287 .273/18/.822 is a decent bat, but it isn't instilling fear in the hearts of starting pitchers.

@DanBFox1287 In free agency last year we waited and got the last "impact" bat left standing that nobody except maybe Detroit wanted, hence the 1 year deal. That seems like the plan again this year. Even after that big signing the team lacked any sort of pop in the lineup other than Devers.

Breaking News: Sonny Gray traded to the Red Sox! At 36, the 3-time All-Star brings a strong strikeout record and led the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio last year. Is he the #2 starter they need? He makes $35 million next year and there's a $30 million team option for '27.

@DanBFox1287 Of you could have added Ryan AND added a bat. I bat is easier to find than a top of the rotation starter.

You don’t want to rob Peter to pay Paul, or whatever the expression is. While trading Duran/Abreu for Ryan makes your pitching staff way better, it also takes away either A) Your offensive spark plug or B) your home run leader, making your offense far worse

Giants took on all of Raffy's contract which presumably frees up some cash to extend the big three, extend Bregman, etc. Still interested in the rest of the return. Not a great return player-to-player. Best guess is that the relationship between Raffy and the front office had deteriorated to the point that this was the only way to go and that the conversation with Henry was basically an assurance they'd find a way to trade him. Before you ask, no, I don't like this one bit.

Ten under-the-radar free agents that could fit the bill. 1. Randal Grichuk 2. Jorge Polanco (switch-hitter) 3. Yoan Moncada (switch-hitter) 4. Justin Turner 5. Austin Hays 6. Paul Dejong 7. JD Martinez 8. Mark Canha 9. Connor Joe 10. Tommy Pham None of these really move the needle. I hate Grichuk for petty reasons but could see him doing what Hunter Renfroe did in 2021. Turner would be fun. Hays might be a good reclamation project. If these are the options at this stage of the game, a trade makes more sense.
Gordo@BOSSportsGordo

Couple Breslow quotes I think are important to remember right now. They know and have known there’s a glaring need for an impactful RH bat. They’ve said it repeatedly. A shoe has to drop, it just has to. Even if it’s not Bregman.

They obviously have struggled in this area for more than decade but three members of the rotation - Houck, Crawford and Bello - are all homegrown. The development of Tolle and Perales (once he comes from TJ) will be critical
Boston Sports@Best_In_Boston

@ChrisCotillo Sox ever going to develop some pitchers? Would be a nice change of pace.
