Years ago when Obama was running for his first term, my neighbors kept talking about how great Obama was. I never said a word to them about being conservative because back then I was more centrist. At the time I was a 1099 consultant so I paid for my own health insurance. It was about $650 for a family of three and we had a fairly low deductible. After Obama won and the ACA passed, I lost my health insurance and was told by BCBS that I had to go through the government website to apply. My insurance went from an affordable $650 a month to $2400 a month with a $10k deductible per family member. When I said this to my neighbor, they called me a liar. I asked them where they got their news and they said they watched Jon Stewart. I laughed so hard and they never spoke to me again. I’m glad they finally moved. I just wanted to say this: these are the people we are arguing with online. Completely uninformed buffoons. If you get your information from a late night comedian talk show host, we are not on the same level. Good riddance, Colbert.

@hvmestarr This the kind of scene that the boys has been missing actually. Feels like the show after season 3 just lost all the sauce of what actually made it good in the first place

@ColorizedVault @hvmestarr Man, yall have a disconnect. The reason everything got whackier in the show is because the inmates were running the asylum by that point. The zany superhero misadventures were becoming more and more unhinged and reckless because no one like Stan was there to contain them.

@deathtoice @hvmestarr Zero plot progression? So, the breakdown of social norms is not a plot progression? They were all terrified and telling on each other and ended up just dying anyway due to the whims of superheroes. The adults have left the room, just like a non fictional place I know of.

@hvmestarr No, this progresses plot and character forward and is much different than watching Eric Kripke’s best celebrity friends get killed in absurd ways by Solider Boy and Homelander for 45 minutes with zero plot progression, that is filler.

Frankly, I think this would have been an even worse cop-out. The big problem here is that the very idea of magically taking away his powers is silly. It was silly when they introduced it and it's still silly now. Not to get too deep into analyzing the realism of superheroes, but bear in mind The Boys sells itself on its realism! The whole point is "how superheroes would actually play out!" So it literally asks for you to criticize it on these grounds. Homelander was modified with V while he was an embryo. If his power comes purely from the V in his blood, how did they give him enough that it's still present? We've seen how much other people have to inject to get powers. There physically could not be that much inside him. The real obvious explanation is he is significantly physiologically different from a normal human, **as a result of the V,** not that he has magic juice in his veins giving him magic powers. That's a stupid concept even when applied to the other supes, but it makes even less sense in his case. The whole concept of the de-powering beam is there because Kripke is too lazy and stupid to actually figure out a way to beat Homelander. Mind you, this wouldn't be hard in a writing sense - just put together a big enough team of other supes to do the job - but Kripke killed off or depowered all the characters he would need for something like that for subversion, shock value, or dragging the plot out longer than it needed to be. So he's left with absolutely nothing. So not only does he need the magic beam, but Homelander's lasers suddenly do no damage when they could slice Kimiko in half before, and he suddenly forgets that he has super speed. I personally think that this is because Kripke is stupid and talentless, but it comes across as low-budget. What's funny is that Supernatural did the **exact** same thing to its final villain, but I'm pretty sure he'd already left the show at that point. So this isn't him repeating his old mistakes, it's actual plagiarism.
Master Cheeks@WiggerMaggot

Having Homelander actually survive but forced to spend the rest of his life locked up, alone and de-powered after being at the top of the food chain his entire life would’ve been a much more fitting and humiliating comeuppance than “and then Butcher kills him”

@AlexJKelly Homelander was created because of the elements within Vought that still had sympathy with Frederick Vought’s original vision, likely mainly Stormfront. Of course, I thought we were done with Hitler in real life, too, but he is a pinup for Gen Z males now.

THE BOYS SERIES FINALE SPOILER THE BOYS SERIES FINALE SPOILER THE BOYS SERIES FINALE SPOILER Butcher was right. It IS only a matter of time before another Homelander pops up as long as supes are allowed to exist. I get why Hughie shot him. He loves Annie and isn’t willing to 1/2

@TheNextMazer Can’t wait until everyone is over this right wing apologia bullshit. The dumbest ideas in history are masquerading as some intellectual nuanced answer to some bogeyman called woke that everyone blames every social ill for. It’s so transparent and dumb. All vibes, no substance.

@escapefrommelos It's fantasy, it's both entertainment and coping mechanism. It's a mistake to think this is a reflection of reality. A lot of people want to think it is, hence the coping mechanism.

you're missing the painting--which exists, not in a cartoon-like two dimensions, but in a very subtly rendered three dimensions which, obviously, you've never seen. ask yourself why you are so hostile to an entire art movement much revered by so many, yet dare to call yourself not a hearty unapologetic philistine --one of a very large tribe--but one who aspires to something called "culture."

The strongest red flag was when leftists lost the ability to be funny. Comedy relies on subverting expectations to expose truth. Leftism subverts the truth to peddle lies. That’s why they can’t be funny, they can’t reveal the truth, their entire politics depends on concealing it.

I don't know about cheerleading but it absolutely can be ethical to be a billionaire. The only people who think it's unethical simply to BE a billionaire are ignorant of economics. You can be a "billionaire" and have less than 100k in liquid cash. If you are a good creator of wealth, then it is absolutely ethical for you to own the many companies you do and continue to grow the economy with efficient companies that provide higher standards of living for everyone else by providing more goods and services at competitive prices.
