I want to tell you how amazing these banyan trees are. Beautiful and terrible creatures. Strangler Figs- they are hemiepiphytic, which means they live on other surfaces, trees, etc, like epiphytes, but then they send down these arial roots that become trunks when they reach the ground. Eventually they surround the host tree and choke it out, stealing its sunlight and nutrients. It dies, and the banyan keeps on growing, and growing.
