@MichaelSolberg In principle, I don’t disagree. What I’m looking for is opposition with the demeanour of a respectful leader in waiting. Many good messages in many cases, today and before, have been lost with the wrong delivery style.

A reminder that it is the literal job of @PierrePoilievre to oppose the Government. To critique it. To question it. To compel it to answer questions. To find unexplored angles on issues that the Government must speak to. That is not an overly partisan act, that is our model of Government. You may dislike the way he carries out this duty, which he was elected by millions of Canadians to do, but you’re wrong to expect he should be celebrating any kind of soft-hearted or small wins of this Government of any kind. That is the partisan in YOU talking. That is not the role of the Official Opposition.

@CarrieTait @DavidEbner Worth the read. As an Albertan, I support limiting the Wild West approach to using the notwithstanding clause. But, anticipate the political implications with trepidation, should limits come to pass. Thankfully, the judgement will come after October 19.

If you are irritated by or concerned with the dangers of gambling ads, consider getting involved in this initiative. One of their key points — cannabis is legal, but no advertising is allowed. unbetgamblingads.com

I am pleased that the City of Calgary and Stampede event operators have reached a compromise that will allow this year's Calgary Stampede to move forward. The agreement increases the sound levels originally proposed by the City for this year's Stampede, while remaining below last year's levels, in exchange for live music ending at midnight each night. While no compromise is perfect, I appreciate the willingness of both the City and event operators to come together and find a practical solution ahead of Alberta's largest tourism event. From the outset, I directed Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis to work with all parties to help facilitate discussions. Earlier this week, Minister Ellis brought together event operators, several Calgary city councillors, staff from the Mayor's Office, Alberta Sheriffs, and the Calgary Police Service, facilitating a meeting that encouraged constructive dialogue and helped move the parties toward a resolution. At the same time, our government brought together Alberta Sheriffs and the Calgary Police Service to sign a first-of-its-kind memorandum of understanding, strengthening the law enforcement presence throughout Stampede and helping ensure residents and visitors can enjoy the festivities safely and responsibly. This compromise provides greater certainty for this year's Stampede. I hope all parties build on this progress by working together much earlier ahead of next year's event so residents, businesses, artists, event organizers, and nearby communities have greater certainty and last-minute issues like this can be avoided. I want to thank everyone who came to the table in good faith and worked toward a solution. I wish all Albertans and visitors a safe, successful, and memorable Calgary Stampede. Happy Stampeding. YAHOO!

The usual suspects, being jerked around by the puppet strings of the UCP (One counselor is running to be in MLA) instead of supporting a reasonable policy that respects all Calgarians.

BREAKING: Calgary city council votes AGAINST a motion to rollback changes to noise exemption rules for music festival tents during this year's Calgary Stampede. Weeknight concerts must end at midnight, with cool-down music until 1am.

Michelle, that is false. The City did not change the rules days before Stampede. Operators who ran past midnight last year were told in February that updated conditions would apply. Cowboys was told again in May. The exemption was conditional. It depended on operators managing noise, safety, and impacts on nearby residents. They did not meet that standard. We are taking public safety in our downtown seriously. Last year several hundred people brought complaints. People reported property damage, windows shaking, items falling from shelves, music until 2 a.m., disorder, and excessive intoxication spilling into nearby neighbourhoods. The City still permits concerts until midnight on weeknights, with cool-down music past midnight. Weekend concerts run until 1:30 a.m., with cool-down music until 2 a.m. No gets a free pass to disturb residents or create unsafe conditions. A great city backs major events and holds operators accountable.

Rona is right. If the @cityofcalgary wants to keep building a world class city, it can't changes the rules on major music festival operators like @CowboysFestival days before their event. Great acts won't come here with that uncertainty. I hope @JeromyYYC understands that.

This is a brilliant point. And shows that even our gov knows that what they claim is simply wrong. Wt lists will increase. Even those in areas not directly affected like cancer.
Andrea Dekeseredy@AndieWinnipeg

My favourite part of Albert’s new dual practice model is where they purposely exclude procedures for life-saving care, because if the policy actually reduced wait times for everyone, cancer care would be first on the list to include.

Ladies of Calgary, I need your help. I have reached that magical time in a woman's life in which the girls at the hair salon no longer know how to do my hair. I went in this weekend asking for '90s sitcom energy from a stylist born in 2004 whose entire oeuvre consisted of Mormon beach waves. No disrespect to her. How could she possibly know what I was talking about? Point being, I need someone who understands the term "angle cuts" and wields feather sheers with confidence. Please help with suggestions.
