Stop trying to compare what the WNBA did with what UFC fighters could do. They are not the same nor is it the same landscape. One key hurdle: MMA fighters are independent contractors not employees.

A jury has found Ibraheem Yazeed guilty on counts of felony murder and murder in the 2019 killing of Aniah Blanchard, the stepdaughter of former UFC fighter Walt Harris. He will be sentenced on April 24 with the possibility of life imprisonment without parole. (via @WVTM13)

After nearly five years with Bookies, my time has come to an end. It was a truly incredible job and I’m grateful to have worked there for as long as I did. I’m now a free agent, and I’m looking for work in sports, sports betting and MMA in particular. My DMs are open. Thank you!

I wrote a memoir on my experience in the mma industry from fighter to the wife of a prize fighter. It gives a realistic perspective on the lifestyle of a fighter and the industry itself. I've started querying, but debating self publishing. Anyone have input on the best approach?

My husband did what you want fighters to do and left the ufc at the height of his career for more money etc Yet the media (minus a few) care far less about his career now than they did before he left. We don't care because this is PRIZEFIGHTING. But, YOU are part of the problem.

@Jenbot6 Not really sure why youre worried. Business wise and I emphasize business wise only cause its not the product, they are doing great. So any thought towards "i dont want them to fail" is just doomerism.

I'm critical of the UFC or just honest about their practices, but i don't want to see them fail-as I don't want PFL to fail. A lot of you have this hater energy towards the UFC. You jump on every misstep, yet you cover their product and value their product above the rest.

@Jenbot6 Sure, but they are a monopoly. They don't have to compete. They've already shed most of their hardcore active fan base, and the critics with them. I don't think there's anything they'll actually respond to anymore. Anyway, I don't want to be a bother. Thanks for chatting.

@PhotoAmy33 True. Sounds like fighters and journalists are struggling with a similar problem. Be relevant or be good. The inevitable endgame of the dumbing down of media/culture.

Unfortunately we have to cover what fans want to read (clicks!) if we write stories no one reads, we lose our jobs. Very few things outside the UFC garner clicks (besides the drama) That said, I continued to cover PFL, LFA, ONE, Bellator, etc and the website closed the MMA section down and I was laid off. Perhaps if I had focused more on the "clicky" stories I might still have my job.

@TheZaneSimon I can agree with that. This convo requires more nuance than x can provide, but my point is the more we focus on the ufc and what they do wrong we are still showing we care about them the most which contributes to them never feeling like they have to compete.

@Jenbot6 Speaking for the haters, I feel like: This company has everything in it I want to enjoy and makes enjoying it as difficult as possible. I don't see failure as a possibility, I only dream for a promotion that has most of the world's top talent to create something more fun.
