STATEMENT FROM KENOSHA DISTRICT ATTORNEY XAVIER SOLIS: CHICAGO BRUTAL MURDER OF AN 18-YEAR-OLD COLLEGE STUDENT BY VENEZUELAN ILLEGAL ALIEN The Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office mourns the tragic death of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student who had her whole life ahead of her. Her murder is a devastating loss for her family, friends, and the Loyola community. Loyola confirmed her death on March 19, 2026, in an incident north of the Lake Shore Campus. According to current public reporting, Sheridan Gorman was walking with friends near a beach in Rogers Park in the early morning hours when a masked man approached the group and fired shots in their direction. She was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Public reporting has also indicated that investigators believed she may not have been the intended target. Further public reporting and a March 22, 2026 statement from the Department of Homeland Security identify the suspect as Jose Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan illegal alien. DHS states that he was arrested at the border in May 2023, later released, and was also released after a June 19, 2023 shoplifting arrest in Chicago. This crime occurred in Chicago, a sanctuary city that protects illegal aliens. Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance remains in force and limits cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Chicago is just south of Kenosha County, and what happens there does not stay there. Failed policies in a neighboring major city can have consequences throughout our region, including here in Kenosha County. This is exactly why crimes committed by illegal aliens must be taken seriously from the very beginning. Retail theft and other so-called lower-level “non-violent” offenses are not harmless. They are often signs of continued lawlessness, disregard for our laws, and escalating danger to the public. When offenders are taken into custody, we must treat those cases seriously, not as minor inconveniences, but as opportunities to protect the public before worse violence occurs. In Kenosha County, my office will continue to work closely with our jail and cooperate with federal law enforcement authorities such as ICE, consistent with the law, to ensure detainers are placed and that dangerous offenders are not simply released back into our communities. Protecting the public must come first. Kenosha County will not be a safe haven for illegal aliens, and we will not apologize for protecting our community. We pray for Sheridan Gorman’s family, friends, and the Loyola University community as they grieve this unimaginable loss. — DISTRICT ATTORNEY XAVIER SOLIS

@SenTedCruz Senator, you are absolutely right. This was preventable. As the Republican candidate for Illinois Attorney General, we will stop the sanctuary city policies that are crippling the state of Illinois.

Sheridan Gorman’s killer was an illegal alien who should never have been in our country. Joe Biden’s open border policies and Gov. Pritzker’s refusal to accept President Trump’s help are the reasons why she is not with us today. Heidi and I are praying for her family and friends following this heartbreaking and entirely preventable tragedy.

Sheridan Gorman's murder is a tragedy — and the person responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving this devastating loss. May her memory be a blessing.

.@GovPritzker has never responded to me regarding the tragic murder of my innocent teenage brother in Chicago on June 24th, 2022. There are countless families who have experienced similar tragedies in Chicago and throughout Illinois, and they have all been completely ignored by Governor JB Pritzker. I hope their voices are heard loudly at the ballot box this November.

.@GovPritzker, I saw your post honoring lives lost in Minnesota—standing publicly, naming Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and laying flowers in their memory. But where was that same compassion on January 19, 2025? That is the day my 20-year-old daughter, Katie Abraham, was killed here in Illinois. She was innocent. She did not knowingly put herself in the middle of an ongoing law enforcement situation. She was not making a dangerous choice. She was simply living her life—and it was taken from her. You have never said her name. You have never come to where she died. You have never acknowledged her publicly. And beyond that—you have never even responded to me. I sent you a simple, non-political letter. Not for attention. Not for headlines. Just a father asking for clarity, for answers, and for understanding of the state’s position. You never replied. And now, in the wake of another tragedy here in Chicago, your public display of compassion elsewhere—while remaining silent about victims in your own state—feels deeply disconnected from the reality families like mine are living every day. Instead, you continue to defend sanctuary policies that create the conditions where preventable tragedies like hers can happen. This is not about politics. It’s about leadership and accountability. When you choose to publicly mourn some victims while remaining silent about others—especially those lost under policies you support—it sends a message. Whether intentional or not, it tells families like mine that our loss does not matter the same way. So I am asking you directly: Where is your compassion for my daughter? Where is your acknowledgment of victims here in Illinois? And when will you take responsibility for the consequences of the policies you defend? Say her name: Katie Abraham. Stand where she died. Show the people of Illinois that every life matters.

This is the statement from Sheridan Gorman's family. It should be met with resignations by JB Pritzker, Brandon Johnson, and Kwame Raoul. I've added some emphasis where I thought it was appropriate: We are again faced with the unbearable truth: our daughter’s life was taken, and our family will never be the same. Sheridan was the heart of our family. She had a rare ability to bring people together — to make others feel included, understood, and loved. She lived with intention, with faith, and with a kindness that defined who she was every single day. She was just beginning her journey, with so much ahead of her. She was doing something entirely normal — walking with friends, close to home, in an area where she had every reason to feel safe. There was nothing unusual about her being there. There was nothing that should have placed her in harm’s way. This was not inevitable. This was a choice. And our daughter paid the price for it. We want to be clear: Sheridan did nothing wrong. She lived her life the way any young person should be able to live it — freely, safely, and without fear. That was taken from her. And it was taken from us. Our daughter’s life was not expendable. She should still be here. We recognize that the arraignment represents a formal step in the justice process, and we appreciate the work of law enforcement in bringing the case to this point. But for our family, this is not about a process — it is about accountability, and it is about ensuring that Sheridan’s life is not reduced to just another case moving through the system. This cannot become just another story that fades with time. Sheridan’s life had meaning. Her presence changed people. And her absence is something we will live with forever. We intend to make sure that her name, her story, and the impact of her life endure beyond this moment. There will come a time when we speak more fully about how Sheridan’s life can continue to matter in the world. For now, our focus remains on honoring her, supporting one another, and seeing this process through.

In September, Gov. JB Pritzker posed with an outreach worker—paid by the state to stop gang violence. Six days later that man was charged with murder. It turns out, there are more like him. My investigation into Illinois’s BILLION DOLLAR anti-gang violence experiment⬇️
The Free Press@TheFP

Taxpayers and billionaire philanthropists have spent around $1 billion on “violence interrupter” programs in Chicago over the past decade. The backers include some of the biggest names in politics and business, like Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, and Governor J.B. Pritzker. There’s just a few problems—@Olivia_Reingold found more than two dozen instances of violence interrupters getting arrested, including a murder charge.

The man charged in a Loyola student's slaying hid near the lakefront and shot at the students as they fled, officials said at a court hearing Monday. Jose Medina’s status as a Venezuelan migrant has brought the case national attention, with President Donald Trump weighing in while locals note one person does not represent the community. blockclubchi.co/4bF2gGL
