I don’t feel safe in my own home. I haven’t for years. I have heard the slander, I have been the punching bag for people’s hatred towards us, I have felt the eyes (and camera lenses) of people peeking into my life when they had no right to be there. The emotional and physical well-being of my family is suffering. I will sacrifice everything to remedy that. My family is facing some heartbreaking decisions in the upcoming days. The generosity, kindness, and support we’ve received during this time has been beyond words, and I truly cannot thank you all enough. In the midst of advocating for Lucy, our businesses have suffered significantly. The legal costs still ahead, along with the difficult decisions our family is now facing in order to protect our rights to just exist on our land as well as protecting our physical and emotional safety—have become overwhelming.
