Two student police officers chased down and arrested a rape suspect in Birmingham. A man attacked a woman in a park on Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath, Birmingham. He approached her, followed her into bushes, and raped her before fleeing. Four days later, student officers, PCs Declan McDevitt and Peter Jones, spotted him during a patrol in the Sparkbrook area. They chased him on foot and arrested him on Ladypool Road. The suspect, Awalkhan Sultankhail, later pleaded guilty and was jailed for five years and three months.

Both the Tories and Reform are now saying the kirpan should be banned. This is totally wrong. The kirpan is a key article of the Sikh faith. An entire community cannot be tarred by the horrendous actions of one person.
