Ben McCollum asked about travel, having less rest than Neb. Refreshing
"This level is so bougie ...
I've been at DII for so long. I played JUCO. I mean, you make your bus trips & you're ready to play. If you're not ready to play for the Sweet 16, then you ... shouldn't be here"

Reds former All-Star First Baseman and Franchise Icon Joey Votto has gifted the City of Cincinnati, the Reds and the fans a custom-built Verdin street clock as a thank you for their support during his 22 years with the Reds organization.
“I am excited about giving the Clock to the city, the team and its fans,” said Votto. “Being the oldest professional team, I wanted this Clock to add to the charm and mystique of the Cincinnati Reds experience.”
Crafted by Cincinnati’s The Verdin Company, the Clock stands 16 feet, 8 inches tall with four 36‑inch dials, and is located on Crosley Terrace, just outside the main ballpark entrance.
“We are incredibly grateful and honored to have this beautiful Clock adorn the front gates,” said Reds President and CEO Phil Castellini. “Joey made us proud every time he stepped onto the field. And this one-of-a-kind gift from him will continue to inspire and excite everyone who sees it.”
The Clock is finished in the official Reds Pantone red with white trim. The top finial is hand‑painted to resemble a baseball, and each Clock face includes “Cincinnati” across the top and “Reds” along the bottom. The faces feature Roman numerals and the iconic Reds wishbone “C” centered on each dial.
“There will continue to be massive moments happening at the ballpark in the future, and people making new memories,” Votto said. “I hope that I can still be part of it in some way, knowing the Clock adds character to this special place.”
Additionally, the clock head features speakers that can play hourly chimes and a wide range of music, including Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
“Joey wanted the Clock to enhance our shared love of baseball, so we are collaborating with Joey and Verdin for fun ways to integrate it into our games,” said Castellini.
At the base of the Clock, a bronze plaque honors Votto’s contribution. The plaque reads: “Thank you Cincinnati” with Joey Votto’s signature underneath it.
“Joey was involved in planning every detail. He wanted his thank you gift to be a showstopper and we are thrilled with how it turned out,” said The Verdin Company CEO Bob Verdin III.

During one of the worst losing streaks of my career, our team president walked into my office.
Keli McGregor. One of the best men I've ever known.
He could have come to vent. To question my decisions. To ask hard questions.
Instead, he said: "Cut to the chase, Clint. What's next?"
I looked him in the eye and gave him two words: "Shower well."
The Colorado Rockies were struggling badly that year.
Pregame preparation was solid. Scout meetings, early work, attention to detail. All of it was there.
But at game time, the tires were flat.
I told Keli: the game did everything it could to us today. We just couldn't meet its demands.
Now it was time to reset.
"Shower well" means exactly this:
• Watch the frustration circle down the drain
• Shampoo, rinse, repeat and get the grime of today completely off your mind
• Walk out clean, go home, and actually rest
Leave it at the ballpark. The game is over. There's nothing left to solve tonight.
Keli nodded. Asked if he could share it with the whole organization.
I said sure. And then it hit me. This isn't just for baseball.
Bad day at the office. Grumpy boss. Missed deadline. Traffic on the way home.
You can carry all of that through your front door.
Or you can shower well.
I've never seen a single problem get better because someone dragged it home with them.
The reset is a discipline. Same as preparation. Same as showing up.
Either we win. Or we learn.
The only real loss? When you don't take a single thing out of a hard day.
So tonight, whatever kind of day it was, shower well.
Tomorrow is a new at-bat.
What does your reset look like? I'd love to hear it.

Jessi Pierce loved hockey. But she loved her family even more. That's what makes this story so hard to stomach.
I followed Jessi's work on NHL.com and her social media platforms. I talked with her on several occasions and she was always so kind.
RIP.

We are heartbroken and join the State of Hockey in mourning the tragic loss of Jessi and her children. May they rest in peace 💔.

From a @mnwild practice in the morning to enjoying ice cream with her kids in the afternoon, if there is any solace in this tragedy, it’s that Jessi’s last day was spent doing the things she loved most—covering hockey and being a mom.
The rink will never be the same without her smile, her humor, and her passion for the game. There was never a moment that wasn’t made better by her presence. This is a gigantic loss for the State of Hockey, and my heart breaks for her husband, Mike, and the rest of her family and friends.

There are no words to express how heartbroken we all are.
Jessi Pierce (Hinrichs) was the most vibrant person - the life of the party, always with a smile on her face, always bringing a passion to every article and podcast and interview she did. Jessi simply loved covering the Wild and hockey throughout Minnesota and had a way of brightening everyone’s day with her upbeat, bubbly personality. I have literally NEVER met anybody that had a way of being EVERYBODY’s friend.
More than anything, she absolutely loved Hudson, Cayden and Avery and was the greatest mother who did everything she could to bring joy to her sweetest kids. Even at Friday’s practice in her beloved Iowa State sweatshirt, she was so excited to take them to the seasonal opening of Cup and Cone in WBL. Seeing those precious pics yesterday, she provided them with another incredibly fun and loving day.
My heart breaks for Mike for the loss of his wife and children and Jessi’s family, friends and colleagues for this unimaginable loss. This hockey community lost a wonderful, energetic and one of a kind voice and story teller and Grade A person.
Life can be unbearably unfair sometimes, and it’s impossible to make sense of this tragedy.
Please keep Jessi and her beautiful kids in your thoughts and prayers. I wish Mike all the peace and support and happiness in the world.
A lot of tears were shed at the arena yesterday. We, in the Wild media and inside the Wild, will miss seeing Jessi everyday, laughing with her everyday. The press box and press room won’t be the same without her. It’ll be a lot quieter, a lot less funny. But her passion and joy for covering this hockey team and sport will remain.
Sorry for the length of this, but as Jessi knew better than most as my original Athletic “backup” and somebody who always gave me Minnesota Hockey Journal deadline extensions, as she used to joke, I’m incapable of writing tight.
Especially about her.
RIP Jessi, Hudson, Cayden and Avery. 🙏💔

An 8:45 p.m. Central tip time in the NCAA Tournament is not ideal. But we and our friends at @wholehogsports got it done.
Arkansas is back in the Sweet 16. Enjoy, Hog fans.
