All 11 Universities in Gaza have been bombed by Israel. This number surpassed 10 yesterday, when Israel targeted and bombed Al-Azhar University. In total, 19 higher education orgs have suspended educational processes in Gaza depriving 88,000+ students their right to education.

At today’s GM the branch passed a motion to take local, targeted strike action if the university continues to impose punitive and unlawful 50% deductions on members taking part in the MAB. This action will target clearing, open days and induction.

Update: We’re already hearing a lot of reports of significant impact of the MAB from exam boards across the uni. Substantial proportions - often majorities - of students in a number of subject areas look set to receive only a provisional or deferred award at upcoming graduations.

MAB UPDATE We’ve met with SLT and while we are disappointed that they are unwilling to move from 50% deductions we are pleased that they have taken our concerns on board about the reporting form, when deductions begin, and asking staff to cover for colleagues
