When @onepeloton instructor Kirsten Ferguson suffered a torn labrum in her hip during one of her runs, she turned to Dr. Benedict Nwachukwu (@bennwachukwumd), sports medicine surgeon at HSS. To get her back on the tread, running and motivating members safely, Dr. Nwachukwu performed arthroscopic surgery to repair and restore Kirsten's hip. No stranger to moving, Kirsten immediately started her rehabilitation alongside physical therapist Snehal (Snay) Patel. With Snay's roadmap to recovery, Kirsten wasn't only able to get back in the Peloton Studios, but she was able to successfully complete the @nyrr #UnitedNYCHalf. Through the Healthy People 2030 program, the federal government has, for the first time, set a national target for youth sports participation: 63% by the year 2030. We are excited to announce our support of the @AspenInstitute’s commitment as a member of the #63X30 roundtable to increase youth sports participation. The mental and physical health benefits of playing sports are profound; benefits that have been denied to many youths whose participation rates have fallen since the pandemic. Members of the roundtable are committing to taking actions that can increase and maintain youth participation in sports—from creating safer and more affordable programs in underserved neighborhoods to promoting multi-sport sampling and developing more coaches to meet children’s needs. HSS is proud to be part of the catalyst for change. #ProjectPlay @AspenInstSports
