@AOC One of the biggest wage thefts is social security tax when the recipients are the wealthiest generation. Means test it or tax boomer wealth so they have to cover each other. Stop taxing an increasingly smaller young working class to pay for entitlements for boomers.

The single largest form of theft in America is wage theft. $50 billion a year are stolen from American workers. If a billionaire amasses their wealth by underpaying their full-time workers so severely that they must rely on food assistance and government programs to survive, then no, that wealth was not earned by one individual - it was a wealth transfer subsidized by underpaid American workers and the public who get stuck with the bill for large corporations free-riding off our systems. The point is less about individual morality. It’s more about how our current economic reality of shattering inequality rewards screwing over workers and exploiting essential systems at scale. We’re talking monopoly power. Rent-seeking. Wage theft. Profiteering. Stock buybacks. Destabilizing housing markets. Companies using SNAP/EBT to underwrite their wages. Massive government subsidies or contracts to corporations following lobbying and dark money in politics with little to no oversight or accountability. Some people get enraged that I draw attention to this. That’s on them. Let them call me shrill, dumb, inexperienced, girly, uneducated - these folks will say anything to distract from or undercut the truth that working people are getting screwed, and giving people a fair shake means we must have a grown conversation about reigning in abuse of power.

AOC: “There’s a certain level of wealth and accumulation that is unearned. You can’t earn a billion dollars. You just can’t earn that. You can get market power, you can break rules, you can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they’re worth, but you can’t earn that”

Finally, one of the moments I’ve been waiting for. YES, I did bet ~$100 on myself on Kalshi because I wanted to get caught… After discovering potential manipulation on polymarket in the NYC mayoral race (NY Post reported on this) I realized how rife with corruption kalshi is…I mean death markets…come on…. I wanted to see (1) if Kalshi would come after me and (2) what their path would be (also noting this is after Kalshi had reached out to me for marketing partnerships on multiple occasions)… I initially met with their compliance in February and then their first offer was to have me pay an ~$800 fine, take a year ban, AND be compelled to make a public statement… The First Amendment safeguards both the right to speak and the right to refrain from speaking. This foundational protection against compelled speech was established in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette… After my refusal, they then increased their settlement to ~$6k, and most recently ~$16k in an effort to compel my speech (for a ~$100 bet on myself) so that they can take pressure off themselves and act like they are enforcing regulations…while getting PR…so I took that bet knowing it would lead to attention… Kalshi is currently being sued by many states for being an illegal betting market…we live in a Country destroyed by vice, which Kalshi directly contribute to - where we can’t afford homes or healthcare and are subjected to gambling away any money we have bc that’s all that’s left in this country that has been asset stripped by corporations. I traded $100 on myself, knowing this would happen (also knowing that I wouldn’t be vying for the democratic nomination) and the attention it would create to highlight how this company is destroying young men and as Senator I will go after Kalshi and impose significant penalties on them - 25% - a vice tax - to pay down our national debt Also ironic timing given that on DC subways, Kalshi has to run ads that they are a fair and legal betting market, bc they know heat is on them and the admin already chose their winner with polymarket… They know they’re fucked and trying to do the same thing the tobacco companies did…

The Virginia one is wild. Someone bet on themselves to run for Senate and then announced they would run for Senate.

@SenWarren Sick of rich politicians like you with tens of millions in assets complaining about billionaires. Want us to take you seriously? Donate your net worth in excess of 1.5 million to progressive charities. Anything less than that and you’re an imposter progressive occupying the zone.

Trump’s DOJ is like the kid who doesn't do the group project and then takes credit for a good grade. But in this case, they also tried to light the group project on FIRE. Trump's deal allowed Ticketmaster to continue ripping YOU off.
Antitrust Division@JusticeATR

Congratulations to all on this historic liability finding. The DOJ was proud to lead a settlement in this matter that brings the American people instant relief and also applauds the remaining states on today’s liability finding. This is a win for everyone in our country besides Live Nation.

@ewarren How about we tax Americans with net worth between 5 and 100 million too. Lot more easily captured tax revenue there, many cannot leave or evade as easily, and their consumption is also easier to tax. Oh wait, you’re one of those millionaires Well, then.

A wealth tax on the top .15% of the richest families would generate $6.2 trillion in revenue. That could pay for: Universal childcare Millions of new homes Slashing child poverty Medicare for people aged 55+ Universal paid family leave Tuition-free community college And more.

@grok @NewsWire_US Assume it is a realistic proposal. Wouldn’t people have to be compelled by force to violate federal law in favor of Mikie’s fiat? Don’t just chalk this up to rhetoric. Take it seriously.

No, it's not a threat in the sense of violence or coercion. Sherrill suggested on a podcast that NJ could explore withholding federal taxes as protest against Trump policies, but states don't collect or control federal income taxes—that's the IRS. It's likely symbolic rhetoric, not a feasible plan involving force.

Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey is floating the possibility that the state withholds federal tax dollars in protest of the Trump administration.

Graham Platner statement to Politico: “It was not until I started hearing from reporters and DC insiders that I realized this tattoo resembled a Nazi symbol.” “I absolutely would not have gone through life having this on my chest if I knew that — and to insinuate that I did is disgusting. I am already planning to get this removed.”
