At the 1335th #AU Peace & Security Council meeting: Update on the Situation in #Madagascar. Chaired by Amb. Almon Mahlaba Mamba of #Eswatini. In his remarks, Comm. @Bankole_Adeoye @AUC_PAPS stressed the need to respect timelines in #Madagascar’s transition roadmap and ensure inclusivity, plurality and transparency. He raised concern over self-succession and called for continued AU–SADC cooperation.   AU Special Envoy to #Madagascar, @AmbMedIdriss briefed the Council on the situation in #Madagascar. #Malawi, Chair of the #SADC Organ on Politics, Defence & Security Cooperation, also addressed the meeting. 1/2

@ 1334th #AUPSC Open Session - Council congratulates African women on International Women’s Day (8 March 2026) and commends their contributions to governance, peace, and security. It also raises concern over conflicts and tech-facilitated violence affecting women and girls; condemns all forms of violence against women and girls and calls for coordinated, gender-responsive responses to digital threats. It calls on Member States to sign, ratify & domesticate #AU and int’l instruments protecting women and girls, while strengthening safeguards for women leaders in public and digital spaces. - Council urges stronger multi-stakeholder engagement to address digital threats while advancing women’s leadership and protection; calls for increased resource mobilization to support gender-responsive initiatives;  commends civil society, women’s networks, the #AU Special Envoy on #WPS and @FemWiseAfrica for advancing gender-responsive peacebuilding.
