I wrote the first ever profile of this group back in 2015 for @Jihadology_Net. They were trained, equipped, and built up by the Islamic Republic-loyal Badr Organization, had a number of incidents with US forces/Kurds in northern Iraq, and are generally a bad actor around Mosul.
