Really important report from @britishprogress with a workable solution to some of the biggest and most destructive features of the UK tax system: the punishing marginal rates at £10k, £60k and £100k. More soon.

Today we launch a new @BritishProgress report to fix one of the dumbest parts of the UK tax system: the £100k cliff-edge, which encourages some of the highest taxpayers to work less. Huge thanks to @DanNeidle for giving us such positive coverage in @FinancialTimes! We find a way to fix the cliff edge, incentivise work and make it net-positive for the Treasury. Pleased to be rejoining the civil service as Investment and AI adviser in DSIT. As an exited founder and angel investor in over a hundred startups I’m hopeful I can help make Britain the place for tech and AI. It’s a part time role as I will still be carrying on my work at Oxford University and on the board of the ALB of the DfE Oak National Academy. This government has made great strides on AI and tech. Excited to get going and help!

OBR have revised down their forecast for net migration but this is *entirely* due to an upwards revision in the number of outwards migration by UK nationals. Still potential for another downwards shift later in the year, if the inwards migration number also drops.

This chart - which I’ve been posting for a year now - shows vast inflation of spending, borrowing under Labour.
