The fall of Singapore was the greatest humiliation in British military history.

Fun fact: British troops surrendered Hong Kong and Singapore to Japan in like 5-7 days while it took the Japanese 3 months to take Shanghai. The defeat was so humiliating for Britain because the Japanese made it a point of parading British POWs through the streets of Singapore while beating them.
