Teen curfews don’t work, and the evidence suggests they can make crime worse.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

Big revelation in the @CityCast_DC poll: 72% of residents favor a teen curfew. And recall, this poll was done May 12-17; the Chipotle brawl was on May 16. I could see that incident alone moving people in one direction or the other.

@rule12f Ah ok, I don’t know that she used the term “brother” — I haven’t seen that directly attributed to her. Doesn’t really matter either way.

Maybe in your personal life, if that’s your philosophy. But the standards for public officials should be higher, and people seeking office have a responsibility to make it clear that corruption is unacceptable.
Jeremiah@jeremiah4dc

Reject the deed not the man is the philosophy here. Janeese voted to remove Trayon from the Council, but still considers Trayon as a friend, brother. As a progressive/human that cares, we believe there are still parts of a person worth redeeming

@JimMalec lol at calling the “Jews control the weather” guy who then bailed on a holocaust museum visit and took bribes a “brother”

@ScottGoldstein I don't really care if disassociating herself from Trayon cost her votes among her supporters; end do not justify means.

@ScottGoldstein You can choose to say Trayon is a mentor, or you can choose to say Trayon has a long history of deeply troubling statements and appears to have taken an enormous amount of bribes. It's always right to do what's right, even when that's not politically expedient.

@ScottGoldstein No, all that stuff still matters. But corruption is unacceptable, and I don't believe in "ends justify means" politics.

@JimMalec So you're going to write off every other issue and not vote for her now? No longer matters who will support early childcare educators and who won't? Who will strengthen the safety net and raise revenue to fund critical programs? Who supports DC youth? Just throw that all out?

Here’s what the science says: curfews have little to no effect, and there is evidence to suggest they may actually increase crime. They also have significant downstream effects that fall disproportionately on non-white children and families. They don’t work. They’re bad policy.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

Pirro says she talked to MPD Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll about getting details on teens who have already violated curfew. She's also talked to @DCPSChancellor, but hasn't yet said whether he will provide any assistance.

Yeah I mean, how deeply disappointing. Will not vote for KM, but associating with Trayon is unacceptable. Corruption has no place in our politics or government, full stop no exceptions
Jordan Weissmann@JHWeissmann

@alpert Campaigning with a council member you yourself voted to expel for corruption is so comically unscrupulous it should just be automatically disqualifying

Let me get this straight. Trump sued his own IRS for $10 billion. His own Justice Department is now considering settling that case. And one of the terms on the table is that the IRS drops all audits of Trump, his family, and his businesses PERMANENTLY. He’s using the full weight of the federal government to protect himself and his family from accountability and potentially pay himself BILLIONS of your tax dollars. nytimes.com/2026/05/12/bus…

Real story: Judge was about to throw out the case bc Trump controls both parties. Before it’s dismissed, Trump tells both parties to reach a “settlement.” Settlement shields Trump from any future audit and creates a secret slush fund that can dole out money to anyone with no transparency. Mind-boggling corruption. @SpeakerJohnson - you may not know it, but your job is to conduct oversight of the admin. You can’t run away from this one.

NEWS -- President Trump is expected to drop his $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service in exchange for the creation of a $1.7 billion fund to compensate allies who claim they were wrongfully targeted by the Biden administration, sources tell me @PCCharalambous @alex_mallin abcnews.com/US/trump-poise…

Will say it again: There are numerous sports leagues that use athletic fields at West Potomac Park, some of the only greenspace left in downtown D.C. Trump, in a Truth Social post, said this morning that the park is a "totally BARREN field of Prime Waterfront Real Estate along our Mighty Potomac River." In reality, it's busy with people most days with warm weather.
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

Breaking news: President Trump said his administration had selected Washington’s West Potomac Park as the site of his planned “National Garden of American Heroes,” raising questions about whether Congress would need to approve the project. wapo.st/4nvdP93
