@dcadamb I still agree it's probably not the best option though.

@dcadamb I don't think it would have to be used only during events - WMATA actually originally wanted to turn the Silver Line around there but couldn't, and eventually there is supposed to be a full neighborhood there. So it could be a full time Silver station/terminus.

Not seeing anyone online discuss this — according to today’s meeting slides, WMATA considered a spur line w/ platforms directly next to RFK Stadium. Interesting concept, but I agree with WMATA’s conclusion to consider other improvements

New: DC's campaign finance office is none too pleased with @AUDCRESEARCH, the dark money group running ads against JLG. After a former JLG staffer filed a complaint alleging it hasn't properly filed its disclosures, OCF wants it to fix those issues...or cease running ads.

@maustermuhle @TPCarney Also they are much more expensive to plow. Virginia passed laws limiting how many of them a development can have, because the cost to the state is much higher than for grids or something more grid-like. Not directly a safety matter, though unplowed roads are a safety matter.

@DemzDeliver How does that work? Isn't the next year's budget up to the next year's mayor and council one way or the other?

It’s certainly true that they have agreed on some stuff — this is a 90% Democratic city with a limited range of policy disagreement on the Council — but George cast the only vote against the 2023 emergency crime bill at the peak of the murder wave.

I don’t understand this @maustermuhle take that JLG and McDuffie don’t disagree on crime. As he notes they are on opposite sides of the one actual legislative debate happening, all the tough on crime people are for McDuffie, and the DSA is for George. 51st.news/dc-mayoral-rac…

@andre_quentin Yeah that happened to me with a hotel in London we were going to stay at. We got this kind of email several times. Fortunately my ad blocker gave big red warnings before I was even tempted to go along with it.

Things are about to get real scary. I got a WhatsApp message about a hotel reservation I made on Booking.com. They have my correct hotel name, correct dates, correct amount, everything. They ask me to confirm my CC details, without which they'll cancel my res.

@rule12f @mattyglesias The DC budget has funded more police officers the whole time but Bowser hasn’t been able to hire/retain them.

@mattyglesias The thing to note about this is we actually have ~1,000 fewer police officers than we did in 2019. The results have not been good.

@mattyglesias Have you asked Kenyan McDuffie yet why he consponsored a resolution opposing changes to the Height Act and now says he opposes it?

To be clear there were a couple of great people at Post Opinions but they were exceptions.

I'm extremely sad to see the demise of the Post newsroom; however, I'm not so sad to see residents stop heeding their editorials, which were kind of bad even before all this. Local endorsements were really based on a set of hidden policy preferences around charters, taxes, etc.

Every decade-ish, Post Opinions would cycle around to someone thinking it's edgy to be anti Metro. (Example: washingtonpost.com/news/tripping/…) This time it's more that they're just ideologically anti any effective government service and Washingtonians don't heed the Post any more.
Randy Clarke@wmataGM

Looks like I need to post this again. For some reason current stats or context is not being reported. Pls read my full tweet thread to understand the facts about Metro’s financials. x.com/wmatagm/status…

The Executive Director of the DCBOE testified today at the Wilson Building and confirmed how RCV results will be processed for the June 16 primary election. We’re very likely not going to know who won the Delegate, Mayoral, At-Large CM, & Ward 1 CM races for at least a few days:

@maustermuhle They’re pretty transparent - GGWash publishes all kinds of stuff, DCFPI does a lot of testifying and publishing papers.

@alpert Shadowy? I mean, the Federal City Council is lots of things, but it’s not exactly hiding anything.

@AshleySchapitl @JHWeissmann I’d like people to engage with the policy criticism of IMPACT though. So far I just hear “it’s good and the union is bad.” I’m sure the issue is somewhat more complex. Maybe that’s something we can all discuss in more depth.

@alpert @JHWeissmann Yes. The union has wanted to kill IMPACT for 16 years despite its success with respect to student achievement. She is their endorsed candidate and also wants to end the system and replace it with some yet-to-be determined system. So you can understand the concern and skepticism

McDuffie supported a DC council resolution in 2013 asking the federal government not to change the Height Act. Would be interesting for a journalist to ask him to explain his change of heart. washingtoncitypaper.com/article/375166…
Alex Koma@AlexKomaDC

Perhaps our most interesting q so far was a direct yes or no: do you support the Height Act? Kenyan McDuffie, Gary Goodweather and Rini Sampath were all no's, Ernest Johnson, Hope Solomon and Vincent Orange all say yes.

@MelikAbdul_ People are complaining about past JLG votes and saying the fact she’s saying different things today shouldn’t be believed. McDuffie was bad on housing in the past and I think should explain his evolution too.

@alpert With the exception of Barry, this was a consensus (symbolic) vote of the council back when Vincent Gray was still mayor. Not a McDuffie fan but how exactly is his 13yr old position relevant to District elections today, when the Council has no control over height limits?
