@bhalligan I feel like you’ve had enough in circuit CEOs and would be cool to have a few off circuit that have unique super powers to share, or have skills you find interesting. Have you tried getting nominations from the community? They have all been great so far!

Dear listeners of my Long Strange Trip pod, Sometimes I have folks on that doing the pod circuit. Should I (1) assume my ceo deep dive is unique and not worry about it OR (2) not spend time filming folks on the circuit as it’s too repetitive? Bh.

@bhalligan @bhorowitz @pmarca @elonmusk Oh man brought back memories of the interview questions at PTC: “what school did you go to? Response: Uh- I graduated from <Insert school>. Interview reply: “what??? I heard that’s the worse school ever and everyone who goes there is terrible!” ..a test of objection handling.

This "F-ck off, Marc" email between @bhorowitz and @pmarca is one of my favorite exchanges of all time. Different era? Maybe. Are we too soft now? @elonmusk definitely isn't.

Pushing for maximum urgency is what it takes in this market. Bring back the "f-ck off" era.

@bhalligan Still remember the story of the “1 signal bar” on your cell phone. So glad you made it though and have recovered so well.

This is a photo of my 5 years ago today. I’m quite sure, life can be short. Live it. Love it.

I’ve started evaluating CEOs with a simple rubric I call LOCK: Lovable. Obsessed. Chip on the shoulder. Knowledgeable. @winstonweinberg of @Harvey checks every box. Lovable enough that you’d want to work for him. Obsessed enough that holidays don’t exist. A real chip on his shoulder as a non-software founder in Silicon Valley. And deeply knowledgeable, but never arrogant. What impressed me? His humility. CEOs get surrounded by praise as they scale. The great ones stay self-critical. Winston does, and he adjusts fast. He learns fast. He’s what elite scale-up leadership actually looks like.

@ndrewpignanelli No it’s not. It’s a great city — it is one if the world’s gems. It is brainy and beautiful.

Thinking about the brave people of Iran as they rise up against a repressive regime. Our daughter created this artwork a few years ago - it’s more relevant than ever right now.

I see a new partner being announced at a VC fund almost every day. No one asked, but if I were hiring, I’d look for a 5 tool VC: 1. Coder/builder 2. Great taste in people 3. Contrarian 4. Legit operating experience 5. Not an a-hole What’s missing?

Board meeting tips for CEO's of private companies: 1. Be transparent -- it builds trust. Board members can tell if you are spinning them. Save the sales pitch for the sales prospect. 2. Prep time -- Either send slides or a memo at least 2 days before the meeting if you want your board to be useful. 3. Opening remarks -- Before you dive into the slides, have opening CEO remarks. I used to give my "mood" score on the business overall. 4. Roberts Rules of Order -- Don't worry about all the "I have a motion bs" in a private board. 5. Discussion -- The content should be designed to fill only half the meeting. A board meeting is a discussion more than a presentation. 6. Asks -- I used to bring "asks" for each board member (i.e. customer intro's). 7. 360's -- Once a year, do a 360 review of each board member. This will be good for them, but also give you a little power in the relationship. 8. Independent -- Get 1 truly independent, sharp board member to help and to balance the power dynamic. 9. Team -- Your senior team should play a part in the board meeting so the board can get to know them. Not all of them every time, though. 10. Culture -- Every board has its own culture. Don't be afraid to explicitly design and talk about it (i.e. lets not take ourselves too seriously). I remember being nervous as sh-t before my first HubSpot board meeting. I hope this helps if you are feeling that way.

Why? Well, we're likely smack dab in the middle of a bubble. So... 1. Valuations are "relatively" good. 2. In previous bubbles, a small minority built amazing platform businesses worth a fortune while the vast majority got nothing. You "might" be in that small minority...

@SteamshipMA Hi @SteamshipMA - it’s Thurs 230 and it looks like there’s only 1 boat running. The Martha’s Vineyard. Might be good to update folks given the confusion of priority standby who were here for reservations starting at 6am.

Starting at 1:15 p.m, the M/V Katama will run in place of the M/V Island Home while that vessel undergoes necessary repairs. Vehicle & passenger cutoffs may occur. Any vehicles that are not accommodated will be placed in priority standby for travel. 1/2

Tonight marks the finish of @Bugcrowd's largest quarter in company history with 75+ new customers joining the Bugcrowd Platform in the last 90 days. The power that the ethical hacker community can unlock for our customers is immense and we're just getting started. This quarter was a big one for us - officially welcoming the Informer team to Bugcrowd, welcoming new leaders to our business like Ryan Wiese and Ronnie Parikh, and personally for me, reaching my two-year mark with the Bugcrowd Team. Together, this team has our sights set on a massive 2024 and preparing for an even bigger 2025. A huge thank you to the many clients who have launched programs with us, grown their existing footprint, and continued to believe in our mission of unleashing the ingenuity of the crowd. To the hacker community: you're the stars of the show - thank you.🙏
