Some can't seem to fathom that most people don't want foreign countries bombing their own country and dictating who their leaders are. Earlier this year, when Trump imposed sanctions and tariffs on Brazil to prevent Bolsonaro's imprisonment and their censorship regime, many Brazilians who dislike Lula become enraged at the US on sovereignty and self-governance grounds (and Trump ended up backing away even though Bolsonaro is now in prison). Even if they don't like their leaders, they also often don't like the US, and thus won't always welcome "us" as liberators, especially when we invade with bombs and guns and orders. It's just basic human nature.

@thomasforth @RianCFFWhitton Or you could have both if you had lower energy costs? Have you looked at what the main drivers of high energy costs are? Lack of UK sourced fuels, lack of nuclear or something else?

@RianCFFWhitton My point has always been and remains,... that's largely fine. We can import goods and services that encapsulate that huge energy use. Steel, fertilizer, aluminium, compute. And then we can focus on the parts of the value chain that aren't that, and that could work fine for us.

Okay then, fine, I've got gardening to do. I'll listen to the "Tom Forth is wrong about energy prices" podcast.
