In purely linguistic terms it's a slur, as in linguistically it is used in the way a slur would be used, and everyone who is really eager to say it is just itching for slur privileges
Kenton Varda@KentonVarda

I find I can't bring myself to use the term "clanker". I mean, I know logically it's fine. AIs aren't people. I don't judge anyone else for saying it, in fact I think it's funny when they do. But when it comes to me saying it, something in my brain says "no".

Today, we launched an investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT. AI should advance mankind, not destroy it. We’re demanding answers on OpenAI’s activities that have hurt kids, endangered Americans, and facilitated the recent FSU mass shooting. Wrongdoers must be held accountable.

OpenAI didn’t launch a new tier. They launched an upsell funnel. Plus users were paying $20 with Codex included. Now OpenAI is “rebalancing” that usage (read: reducing it) and introducing a $100/mo tier with 10x Codex access through May 31. The timing isn’t a coincidence. You reduce what people get at $20 at the exact moment you offer 10x at $100. The gap between the two tiers does the selling for you. At the end of May, the 10x drops to 5x. But by then you’ve already upgraded and $100/mo is just what you pay now. Anthropic did the same thing with Claude. Limits quietly got worse, then a temporary 2x off-peak promo showed up to ease the sting. Every AI subscription is subsidized at a loss. This is what the correction looks like: not a price hike, just a slow squeeze until the next tier up feels inevitable.
OpenAI@OpenAI

We’re updating our ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscriptions to better support the growing use of Codex. We’re introducing a new $100/month Pro tier. This new tier offers 5x more Codex usage than Plus and is best for longer, high-effort Codex sessions. In ChatGPT, this new Pro tier still offers access to all Pro features, including the exclusive Pro model and unlimited access to Instant and Thinking models. To celebrate the launch, we’re increasing Codex usage for a limited time through May 31st so that Pro $100 subscribers get up to 10x usage of ChatGPT Plus on Codex to build your most ambitious ideas.

@Wendigoon8 @mjarbo stop romanticizing the process of creating. art is expression and all expression are valid. you literally make video about other people's work. is that art?

It’s not your expression, it’s a machine given words that it uses to create a consensus of how other people have expressed it. Expression is your voice, not the voices of others serrated and dragged through a machine made to mimic your mouth. You express nothing, you forfeit your voice to allow the rest of humanity to speak for you. Here, you even say the ultimate goal is the erasure of human voices. Your “expression” leads to a lack of humanity, not a furtherance of it. Every iteration and invention of art has found new ways to allow us to culminate the human experience through sensation, but generative AI is cancer, it’s the cells of what we’ve already built spinning ad nauseam until all we “make” is what others have already made. It’s a dead end and lifeless, and goes against whatever spirit, soul, or God gave us the gift of creation in the first place.

Never unsubbed from someone so fast. No one is owed anything or entitled to anything. What you make of things is what you make of things, some people will get further than others that is just a fact of life But to diminish someone else for how they expressed themselves is rather bigoted, short-sighted, and ultimately will lose out in the end The reason why you see so many of these YouTubers coming out and saying that nobody deserves to make art, is because they're worried that they themselves will be replaced by those who are more capable of using the technology in the tools available to be better at the kind of content that they make The screed from wendigoon is just fear. Eventually somebody will make an iceberg list of YouTubers that failed to anticipate where the puck was going, and he'll be on there

Drop Site@DropSiteNews·
Drop Site News reports on breaking events with clear sourcing and careful attribution, distinguishing between verified information and claims made by governments or state-linked outlets. In the post at issue (linked below), the information was explicitly identified as coming from Iranian state-linked media and framed as a claim, consistent with our standard editorial practice. Our coverage applies the same approach across all actors, including the United States, Israel, and Iran. In fast-moving conflicts, competing narratives are part of the story, and documenting what each side is saying is essential to understanding how events are being framed and interpreted in real time. As Drop Site reporter Ryan Grim wrote, “anybody who reads our Twitter feed knows that we regularly report official and semi-official statements… Our readers have enough sense not to believe everything every government says, but they do want to know what they’re saying in real time. Other readers, those not interested in knowing what governments adversarial to the U.S. are saying, have endless options to choose from, but we’re not one of them.” We do not limit our reporting to Western or allied sources. Providing visibility into claims made by all sides, with proper attribution, is a core part of our editorial approach. Regarding the reporting at issue, some have accused Drop Site of “promoting” Iranian propaganda for noting that U.S. forces were reportedly bombing areas where a missing airman was believed to be located. That element of the reporting, which we were among the first to surface, was later borne out by subsequent disclosures. Prior to that, we also reported information from journalist Jack Murphy—a U.S. military veteran—who said the recovery had been successful, with clear attribution. Our role is to provide audiences with the information needed to assess developments as they unfold. We do not withhold information from our audience merely because it comes from a source adversarial to the U.S. government, nor do we tell readers what to think. If this is the kind of journalism you think the world needs, link to subscribe is in our bio.
Drop Site@DropSiteNews

💢 Iranian state-linked Tasnim News, citing a military source, claims U.S. forces are bombing areas in southwest Iran where a missing pilot may be located, alleging Washington has “lost hope” of recovery and is attempting to kill him. The source added: “We will not announce whether the pilot is in our custody or not,” and accused the U.S. of “not telling the full truth” about the first crew members U.S. claims was recovered. Separately, Iranian officials reported U.S.-Israeli strikes and at least 4 killed during the recovery operations: ➤ In Dehdasht, a city in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province in southwest Iran, 4 people were killed and 1 wounded after a telecommunications tower and the Kooh Siah broadcasting center were struck, according to provincial officials. ➤ The site is part of local communications infrastructure, suggesting the strike targeted media or signal capabilities rather than a conventional military base, though authorities said details remain under review.

The "AI psychosis" that worries me the most at this point is misperception of data centers as terrifying abominations that must be stopped and destroyed at all costs Most commonly repeated claims are false, and they are driving people to violence.

Codex is great and a good alternative to Claude Code but Apple doesn't position Apple as an alternative to Samsung or cheaper Samsung or better Samsung or anything like that. OpenAI needs to get its comms together without employees diluting the brand in random ways. And its very straightforward to see Anthropic's comms with only a few folks posting about anything related to Claude Code.
