what happened is truly tragic. condolences to all the families affected. i'm not an experienced diver, so i won't pretend to have an opinion on the technical details of what went wrong. but as experts have pointed out, cave diving is safe when proper preparation, planning, and procedures are followed and the same applies to rescue operations. we're already seeing posts from experienced divers highlighting the mistakes that were made. in both the expedition and the rescue mission. at the end of the day, the core issue in this country is accountability. without it, there's no guarantee these tragedies wont happen again.

STELCO, a 100% state-owned company and the ONLY electricity provider in their zone with zero competition, has replied to my RTI claiming that disclosing their payroll, including the salaries paid to thousands of politically appointed positions, would “harm their business and financial interest.” A monopoly state company funded by the public is arguing that transparency itself is a threat. Mind you, the PNC government came to power promising such a high level of transparency that people supposedly wouldn’t even need to file RTIs anymore.

Are you trying to teach me how concessions work? @yaanmate If gov is giving ADK a concessional rate to run essential services, then ADK has a responsibility to provide those services at affordable prices, not charge 750 to 1,000 MVR per consultation. ADK has become completely unaffordable for ordinary people. If concessions are going to be given for essential healthcare, they should be offered fairly to all pharmacies and clinics in Male' and Hulhumale', not just to one institution. ADK is not passing on the benefit of these concessions to ordinary citizens. Instead, it is people like Shifana and others in similar positions who are benefitting from the subsidies and special treatment ADK receives.
