Strange occurrence in Blacksburg. Clemson had a guy slide into home and score, but in the process the turf batter’s box got completely flipped over. 😳

ACC’s Friday night schedule

@DouglasFir33 @BudElliott3 I’ll wait on you to show me any banner in an athletic department or stadium celebrating any of those.

That’s the point, though. There was a time when going 8-4, making the Citrus Bowl, and finishing 19th actually did feel like a successful season. The issue is the sport/CFP/ESPN spent a decade teaching fans that bowls are secondary and the Playoff is the real postseason. So it’s not that Team 19 in a playoff is inherently more noble than Team 19 in the AP. It’s that the meaning moved. If the Citrus Bowl still carried the status it used to, this argument would land a lot harder. But once the sport centralizes relevance around the CFP, access to the CFP has to carry more of the postseason-validation burden. We have been drastically shrinking the number of fan bases that feel like they had a successful season because of the small playoff format and mostly because of the "playoff or bust" mentality.

Steve Spurrier told us in 1997 that making the Citrus Bowl wasn’t a good year. Stop with revising history.

@BudElliott3 It never should’ve been seen as a success. If you’re not playing for a title it’s a meaningless exhibition game that players caught onto years ago and started opting out of. Making every bowl game have playoff ramifications fixes this issue.
