@lakens MI would like it to be more cooperative, where individuals fulfil distinct roles with are closely aligned to a collective aim. Ie ‘do research together’ maybe à la Human Frontiers Science Program Research Grants hfsp.org

@grantabt It’s also what I tend to use, but I can see some cases where the statement from the paper could be true.

@JobFran3 Yes, most institutions will have a repository that can be public facing where you could place a timestamped preregistration. I prefer the OSF templates, mostly because they’ve done much of the heavy lifting for us 😊.

Science and Medicine in Football is pleased to announce that, in addition to @PCI_Health_Mov, it is now also a @PCI_RegReports-friendly journal. This is another initiative to promote transparency and high-quality publications. Thanks to @chrisdc77 for the support and patience.

@coach_samuelT Of course. Nonetheless we can sense things aren’t as cosy in decel-land as they look. The limitation here is really that we used ‘second hand’ info, where decel parameters were secondary outcomes, but perhaps decel is more difficult to train than we thought.

@JobFran3 I'm going to find this interesting. I experimented with a block of decel focus with a willing athlete. Increased soreness, decreased COD performance outcomes. Back to our usual style of COD against an opponent and soreness gone and pr's set. N=1 but still.

This open access work meta analyses the literature on deceleration ability. We showed that in the current literature, training interventions which measure deceleration outcomes (even if they were not targeting them specifically) favour the control over the intervention group.

The final study from my PhD is now available online! We found that: - Coach instruction is potentially linked to cooperative team behaviour. - Free-play without instruction may lead to more individual actions by players. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

@andykirkland71 My field, skill acquisition science, would hardly be described as an established area, I would think. That being said, there are not a huge number of people interested in Open Science practices there.

@andykirkland71 I can’t speak for everyone of course, but I am realising I have only two choices left as an academic. Swim with the current or get out of the water. Being more interested in Open Science is my way of swimming to the shore.

Would most sport science research be viable if open science protocols & appropriate samples were insisted upon?

@andykirkland71 But that of course does not mean we can’t promote these practices (as you know). To me this is something I can do to make myself feel better about being an academic, so interestingly I do it for very selfish reasons.

@JobFran3 Really interesting (because I agree). I believe many areas of health science ‘have worked it out” philosophically (through using appropriate methods) but I often get blank looks when suggesting them in sport because they’re not the ‘status-quo’. Humans are typically always thus.

@timgill924 Peaceful rainfall = ‘sound of man urinating after 6 Duvels and a jug of water chaser to avoid old-man-hangover’. That’s a minute of sound. Loop that 100 times and show a looped video of rain falling on a tin roof. Then thank me later
