Not a Subnautica guy, but I don't approve of their pacifist bullshit. Do not force vulnerability without reason. If you don't want the player defending themselves, make their defenses ineffective. Not impossible.

@AI_EmeraldApple Its a really good game. So was the first one. It would be worse with guns. The games core mechanics rely on it. If you want to complain about ideology, the "below zero" version of the game is almost unplayable with audio. It is constantly yapping.

Glad I didn't buy it. The game is not for me, and I hate games that make me play the way the developers want me to play instead of the players deciding how to play. The delusional leftists' principles of pacifism don't work in reality, and don't work here... It's compeltely immersion breaking to not even be able to punch a fish in the face. The complete lack of any weapons, even a pointy stick, is a nonsensical way of designing an underwater exploration game where tons of hostile creatures exist. Also, the developers telling the players to play another game always goes well. Every time they did that, it led to animosity, loss of trust, and collapse of player support.
Pirat_Nation 🔴@Pirat_Nation

Subnautica 2 devs say "go play Sons of the Forest" if you don't like its lack of violence. The game focuses on underwater exploration, and you cannot kill most creatures. On the official Discord, one player asked why killing is impossible in SN2 as it makes no sense. Level designer Artyom O’Rielly replied, “This is not a killing game, so go play Sons of the Forest if you want to kill.” Another developer said, “The team discusses this a lot inside the studio and may let players catch small fish for food, but large creatures will stay safe so the game feels right.” This idea comes from the first Subnautica, as the team wants players to discover things, feel wonder, and live with ocean life instead of fighting it. A fan-made mod already lets players kill creatures, and the studio is reading all feedback. It plans to add better ways to scare off creatures but will not add weapons. Early access is expected to last up to 3 years.

Now that I've joined the Codex team, it's so freakin' cool being able to fix paper cut bugs that I was running into before the switch. What paper cuts are you running into? I'll see what I can do.

@OrsonPelles @Grummz Subnautica 1: ~9.8 million (estimate) Subnautica 2: 2+ million (in first 12 hours) I am an avid cs2 player (top 1k when peaking) Yet my favorite single player games of all time are portal 2 and subnautica. I heavily assert that their lefty bullshit made a great game.

Subnautica 2 is a pacifist ideology woven into a game. Players have noticed you cannot defend yourself against attacking fish. Not even in self defense. Only passive means are available. This was by design. You can't kill anything because the devs feel it would support gun violence and aspects of colonialism: "Subnautica is one vote towards a world with less guns. A reminder that there is another way forward." "We want people to feel like they're learning to adapt to the world, rather than being a conqueror or dominator." "We aren't a killing game. Go play Sons of the Forest or something if you want to kill." The anti-violence stance got stronger from Subnautica 1 -> 2, which now has a complete "no kill" policy even when the fish can still kill *you*.

@Redneck_Caveman @Pirat_Nation Guns would make the game less unique. I don't agree with their reason. It'd turn into some horde shooter or boss battle. Having to avoid giant monsters gives it that scary atmosphere where you feel small and like you're barely getting by. Way less fulfilling with guns.

@Pirat_Nation This idiotic anti-gun leftist logic along with the one save game slot per playthrough (requiring manual backup to prevent data loss) are great reasons to pirate this game...

The developers of Subnautica 2 want to keep the game non-violent like the first one. They want players to adapt and live with the ocean creatures instead of fighting or killing them with weapons. This core idea started years ago when studio founder Charlie Cleveland chose to leave guns out of the series after the Sandy Hook shooting. He wanted the game to feel like peaceful exploration of nature rather than adding more violence to the world. Even though fans from one country overwhelmingly asked for the chance to craft weapons in the sequel the team says this will be a repeated point of resistance. One developer explained "I think it's a point of resistance that we'll get repeatedly while making the game though we feel strongly about it." So players must instead use smart tools evasion and distraction to survive.

@Mericamemed Kind of weird to me to shun this, we're in a legitimate death spiral because people aren't having children/creating families. Economy is a great deal of that, but why couldn't a system match people based on traits and create happy long lasting families?

Silence is NOT consent But what happens when someone consents, then changes their mind? Silence is STILL NOT CONSENT That’s why I spent the last three years designing, engineering, prototyping, testing, and contacting dozens of suppliers in China to bring you: The Consentinal™️ The world’s first continuous consent confirmation device Simply press and hold the CONSENT button to activate a repeating tone, letting your partner know that consent is actively being given The moment you let go, the tone stops No more ambiguity "But what if me or my partners are deaf, mute, or they don't have use of their arms?" The Consentinel™️ has light-flashing and vibrating functionality. It also has a soft rubber button so that the device can easily and comfortably be used in one's mouth Not only that, it can be wireless connected to other Consentinels™️ so that two or more partners can unanimously indicate consent. Letting go of any one button stops the consent indicator on all connected Consentinels™️! Consentinel™️, because consent should never be assumed
