@FrMatthewLC It has no effect delayed 20+ years. This shows scripture true when it says: “Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.” How we do the death penalty is injustice in its delay.

The question is not whether he deserves execution (he does), but whether we should execute him (we shouldn't). In the USA, executing people does not reduce crime, protect people (at least if incarcerated in more protective prisons), or save money compared to long term imprisonment. Executing people hardens us as a society to others. All systems of capital punishment there are systems to protect the executioner from the deed, showing the recognition of how such acts are bad for them as human beings, even when they agree in principle it's moral. In the US, the evidence & ethics are against having any executions.
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

I am challenging any death penalty opponent — there are millions of them, allegedly — to step up to the plate right now and explain why this guy should not be executed. His guilt is established beyond any doubt whatsoever. His crime is utterly savage and heinous. Tell us why he doesn’t deserve to die. Go ahead.

@_CoryBowen Consider that in the middle of ages we protected such names by burning those who took them wrongly at the stake. Yes, you can blaspheme God by false association. No, this ability to store up judgement for yourselves does not create an obligation for others to join you in it.

Protestants will continue to say "Mormons aren't Christian" while ignoring the the official name, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is overlooked primarily because the actual name is the most straightforward, logical name a Christian church could have.

@RevJaredJones He’s not that disconnected. Dr. Alberry was a professor for some years at Cedarville University in Ohio, lots of students are in the Ohio area still, including Cinci where Michael pastors. He was controversial then too, with pastors expressing concern over his view of temptation.

Here are the three main problems with the gay celibate Christian movement. They... 1. Deny the goodness of shame. 2. Deny the sinfulness of effeminacy. 3. Deny the sinfulness of unnatural desires that arise from within man. Consequently, they... - Delay and reject marriage, though they lack the gift of celibacy. - Create a category of same-sex intimacy that they claim is aesthetic and not erotic, which sets them up to act on their desires. - Rob homosexual and/or SSA Christians of hope.

@thisisfoster He was a temp professor at Cedarville while I was there, I heard him speak on occasion. I wonder what could’ve been accomplished by him taking up wood chopping or other T-building muscle-oriented activities with burly men. Being philosophical is safe in an unhelpful way sometimes

@RevJaredJones Isn’t it always about both when discussing a public figure? Both the positions he represented, and the person himself? And more about the person when you know them, more about the positions represented when they are personally distant from you.

@CherylSchatz Yes, in human to human interactions, that is true. However, to claim God does not deal in terms of groups (families, nations) creates problems. How was God just in commanding the genocide of the Canaanites? This included all infants. Where are infants called innocent?

@Joehcq1 The Scripture says that a son is not to be put to death for his father’s sin. That teaching is fundamentally against God’s revelation that little children belong to Him. They are called innocent.

James White takes issue with John MacArthur's position that all infants and unborn children who die go to heaven. White argues that the same election that applies to adults applies to infants, meaning there are elect infants and non-elect infants. In his view, God makes no exception for the unborn or the very young when it comes to election and its consequences.

@WozzleBaby @RevJaredJones Was anyone actually saying anything about Ravi beforehand? I thought that one more surprised everyone. Like I understand some such as MacArthur had made their private remarks “I’ve never seen him open the Bible”, but I wasn’t aware of anything public.

I think posting "I told you so" when a pastor resigns and has admitted his sin is one of the grosser things that happens on this app, and its always the same people who do it.

@InternetUserX1 @nocoradio Statistically, more Roman Catholics are okay with same sex marriage than evangelicals. If you’re opposed as a Roman Catholic, you’re in the minority, not majority. It’s opposite that over here. Is Rome all about priests abusing boys? Rome is as Rome does?

@nocoradio Immanuel "church" Nashville is a so-called "Side B" congregation that believes ordaining SSA men is OK if he is celibate, completely ignoring 1 Timothy 3 of course to do this - one more heresy on top of the entire heretical protestant religion. Protestant is what protestant does.

@dankeaton @TerriGreenUSA No, betters songs are the exception not the norm in this category. This is accurate. Especially the piece with the well off young blonde woman somehow adding emotional elements to the song but I’m never clear if it’s not just because shes a young attractive woman.

This video demonstrates the absurdity of contemporary Christian music today, that is the same tune, different words, and its meaningless messages like Bethel and Hillsong. It’s all about feelings.

@CherylSchatz @PuritanPulpit All this shows is what’s spoken in the Heidelberg catechism, that it is ordinarily God’s way to elect the children of the elect and so we should not doubt the election of such as die in infancy or live mentally disabled.

@PuritanPulpit I think that God went one step further. He called the infants of Israel as His children before and after they died. This removes the idea that there are any non-elect babies.

If all Bibles were destroyed, their stories wouldn’t return the same after a thousand years. But if all science and history books were destroyed, the same facts would reappear because they can be tested and verified repeatedly.

@Okla_Hombre Yeah, but McDonalds is kinda crappy as a fast food chain. You can tell they only care about the real estate. Many other chains are more food and service oriented. You might just require them to actually compete.

The average McDonalds restaurant takes in ~$4million/yr in revenue. They spend ~$2 million in non payroll operating expenses. Raising the minimum wage to $25/hr would give each of the ~50 full time employees a pay rate of $51,000/yr. That would increase their payroll costs to $2.5 million per year Each McDonalds would operate at a net loss, unless they massively cut payroll costs through automation. That means job losses. The laws of economics are undefeated.
Ro Khanna@RoKhanna

I co-introduced historic legislation to increase the minimum wage to $25. As someone who taught economics at Stanford, here is why it makes sense. The real minimum wage was $14 in 1968. Today it is half, but productivity has increased 2.5x. Instead of extractive capitalism, we need a free enterprise system that pays workers what they are worth.

@zuess05 False premise. It’s not all just a prompt away. A decently good answer is just a prompt. True expertise, something that actually comprehends the question/problem, is still the unique domain of the human.

Serious question. For decades, the standard advice was to "pick a niche" and become a highly paid specialist. Now Claude has the combined knowledge of every specialist on earth, instantly available for $20 a month. What exactly are we supposed to tell kids to major in when every technical skill is just a prompt away?

@SydneyLWatson A friend has spent tons of time on these kinds of bills. He’d haggle, and if he’s getting nowhere, hang up, and call back hoping for a different rep. Repeat as necessary, sometimes with 3 day gaps.

Seen a lot of conversation about how predatory the American medical system is. So I will weigh in. I ended up going to the ER about 2 weeks ago for crippling pain. Turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst. I was there for MAYBE 4 hours. My bill? $13,500 dollars. Because I'm uninsured (by choice, that shit is a SCAM), the hospital dropped my bill down to $8,100 and some change as an "uninsured" discount. For starters, $13,500 for a 4 hour hospital visit is insane as it is. But the fact the hospital can wipe $5,000 off the bill "just because" should show you how utterly fucked this system is. And to be clear - $8,000 is still an absolutely insane sum of money when all these people did was scan my stomach and give me some pain killers. On my itemized bill, my CT scan was 7k. The iodine they used was $900. Just being in the ER room alone was $2,500. We phoned the hospital to haggle. They dropped the price by $20. Normal people can't survive this shit. I do okay and $8,000 is still an INSANE chunk of money out of my savings. Anyone who argues this isn't a disgusting, predatory system is crazy. And it is even crazier that Americans accept this. And for those of you who argue this is the free market, I need you to be quiet. There can never be a true free market here when government and insurance have their creepy little fingers in this pie. People shouldn't go bankrupt trying to pay medical bills. This has to change.

@vrilliumlive The fact Russia doesn’t care about its soldiers doesn’t mean Ukraine needs to risk its soldier’s lives so it’s “fair”. Let Russia bleed alone if it keeps this aggression up. And were the tables turned, they wouldn’t much care about international “law” anyway.

@vrilliumlive Obviously some will fight with older bloodier tactics anyway, but there will always be nations that count human life as cheap. So far, true technological advantage remains the possession of the free word, because only our culture can produce the best. The enslaved nations fail.
