#PressStatement KHRC is reminding telco companies— @SafaricomPLC, @AIRTEL_KE, and @TelkomKenya—that the High Court issued orders in May this year prohibiting any form of internet shutdown. Justice Bahati Mwamuye's ruling came in response to a petition by ICJ-Kenya and others following the June 25, 2024, blackout during nationwide protests calling for good governance. Safaricom and other telco companies must understand that any attempt to shut down the internet, throttle connectivity, or downgrade service to 2G as Kenyans rally for justice over police killings in 2024 would amount to contempt of court and attract legal consequences.
