@JoeyChase_ Darkside has the better mechanics and atmosphere, great remake of RE2, great CV remake, all that. Plus, original scenario that makes Leon/Krauser dynamic awesome. UC falls apart kinda around the RE3 part of it, where the budget was obviously gone.

Okay so I was vibing with the trailer, but saying its set in Raccoon City during RE2 where there's this shot of the protag with a smartphone flashlight already has me questioning how much it's DRASTICALLY deviated from the OG lore. It's DMC Netflix all over again...

I finished Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for the first time. It really didn’t resonate with me. In fact, I found it to be a downgrade over the 1996 original and 1998’s RE2. It’s important to clarify that it is a great game and one I enjoyed playing, but I feel it missed the mark coming off the prior entries. I definitely understand the age old debate of “this wasn’t really supposed to be the third game, but a spin off” because regardless of where the truth lies this really doesn’t feel like where the story would go naturally after finishing RE2. It does feel like an extension of that game with a different character and changes to the tried and true formula I didn’t really care for. There is an obscene amount of enemies and despite having no issues with RE1 or RE2 I found myself consistently screwed by having no ammo or health and an army of undead before me. I’m willing to accept that I may need to “get good”, but nothing about the prior games prepared me for how this title would handle progression and item management. Nemesis is a really cool idea and honestly how relentlessly he pursued you in a 1999 title is very impressive, but man did it get tiring. If he’s not randomly showing up to tank your health, he’s fighting you in what feels like half a dozen different boss battles with the character. There’s an ability to dodge, but even when I understood it, it felt very unreliable to use. The story isn’t as engaging as the prior games were either, and the scattered setting of being on the streets or in a number of different buildings doesn’t convey the same atmosphere I loved so much about the first two entires. Carlos is a fine enough character, but one I never truly felt attached to. There’s a whole different action driven spectacle vibe that RE3 was going for that I don’t think served that style of game well. I can certainly see why RE4 was refreshing on multiple levels. There’s an interesting addition of choices you get to make over the course of the game that have a direct impact on how things play out. I tried a few to see how things change, and much like the Nemesis AI I was quite impressed. It felt great to be Jill again and to see more of Raccoon City even if RE3 never truly felt like the logical next step for the series. I know I sound overly negative, but in all honesty I had a good time. It was just an experience that didn’t have the same highs and was littered with frustrations. I’m now really curious to see how I feel about a replay of RE3 remake and an eventual first playthrough of Code Veronica to see how it fares as a continuation of the story. I’m glad I played Nemesis, I can still see why it’s some fans favorite, but for me it’s probably going to be a title I rarely return to.

@darkartistj @housedim1trescu @Kurisutina06136 A lot more than just the raccoon city park was cut. The back alleys and streets that gave the game amazing atmosphere was cut. Along with the big RNG that was in the original game when it came to enemies and nemesis encounters was cut.
