Luister naar Kinnegings duiding van de blinde vlek van linkse ‘wetenschapsgelovigen’, die niet alleen een verkeerd beeld hebben van wat wetenschap werkelijk ís, maar óók van wat de staat is (en behoort te zijn). Hedendaags links verwart wetenschap met ideologie en de staat met moreel instrument. Wetenschap wordt niet gezien als het proces van voortdurend voortschrijdend inzicht dat wetenschap ís, maar als bron van allerlei absolute en onveranderlijke waarheden. De staat op zijn beurt fungeert in het linkse wereldbeeld als uitvoerder én hoeder van al die pseudowetenschappelijke waarheden, en wordt ingezet als poortwachter die afwijkende meningen mag beperken of geheel uitsluiten. Links heeft zichzelf daarmee een onbeperkte definitiemacht toebedeeld. Zo verdween het open debat, nota bene de basisvoorwaarde voor zowel de wetenschap als de democratische rechtsstaat. We mogen nooit vergeten dat wetenschap begint met twijfel en vrijheid met grenzen aan de staat.
