Fair, I feel though all the hand waving of marketing ploys.. the distinction of marketing vs science at this point might be less useful, & at some point we genuinely might not be able to tell the difference which is probably a bigger problem. Also 'It's just training data' points at the fuel, not the engine. Training data alone won't explain why two different architectures on the same data behave differently, we're going to want to know the structural dynamics that produce behaviors

Interesting. But still you uncharitably miss the point, which is that Anthropic made a silly marketing play masquerading as a serious white paper; nobody denies that LLMs might shed light on language and psychology; the only question here is what the best explanations of certain LLM behaviors are. Consciousness—or the training data?

Yes true, the analogy is a basic map territory distinction , Yet even though a trillion megapixel camera doesn't produce heat , it in effect constrains the principles of fusion physics since it IS tethered to reality, (he's essentially saying making a super high resolution image of the Sun couldn't tell you more about how stars work, which actually they can) LLMs train on the light of human thought & are doing something analogous by exposing the latent structure to knowledge of the Mind itself, to test our own hypothesis of cognition.
