Follow me on my adventure… Pretend there are 5 people living in Canada and this is what they make annually: Gertrude: $500,000 William: $400,000 Suzy: $50,000 Spencer: $40,000 Dwight: $30,000 Gertrude and William own all the stores and sell grocery, clothes and industrial supplies to Suzy, Spencer and Dwight. This is what these 5 will pay in Carbon Tax: Gertrude: $5000 William: $4,000 Suzy: $800 Spencer: $600 Dwight: $500 This is will be their ‘rebates’: Gertrude: $0 William: $0 Suzy: $850 Spencer: $630 Dwight: $520 Suzy, Spencer and Dwight love the carbon tax. They got more money back than they paid (so they think). It’s like a lottery. Super awesome. Gertrude and William got screwed. The Supreme Emperor who invented the carbon tax, doesn’t care about Gertrude and William though. He just needs the support of the other three to stay in power. The Supreme Emperor also knows that like him, Suzy, Spencer and Dwight aren’t very good at math and can’t figure out that their entire cost of living has increased, because Gertrude and William just raised the price of everything because the Carbon Tax made their cost of doing business more expensive. Because they pay more carbon tax and don’t get a rebate. Suzy, Spencer and Dwight keep voting for the Supreme Emperor, because they like ‘free money’. Gertrude and William vote to have the Supreme Emperor removed from power and Suzy, Spenser and Dwight get upset. They don’t understand why Gertrude and William despise the Supreme Emperor who gives out free money like candy. The thing is… Suzy, Spenser and Dwight don’t even know that Gertrude and William don’t get a rebate and had to increase prices on everything, because they only watch CBC. The End.

Quick course in historical reality. When you lose a war, you often lose land. Ask Mexico. Ask Germany. Ask Paraguay about the War of the Triple Alliance. Ask countries throughout history. Lose the war, lose the land. And the winner of the war can do whatever they want in their new land. Cut down all the trees. Fix it up and make it nice. Give it to some other country. It's their land now. (Reminds me of the non-PC joke about the Texan and the Mexican in the bar. The Mexican says "I'm really angry at Americans. You stole part of our country!" The Texan says "Whoa, amigo, that was 180 years ago, and we won it in a war, fair and square!" The Mexican says "Yeah, it's true about losing it in a war … but you took the part of Mexico with the paved roads and the power lines!" … but I digress.) Now, consider the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. Before WWI, during the Ottoman era, Filistin (a cognate of Palestine) was used to refer to the Holy Land in a general way. The lands of the region of Palestine specifically (modern Israel and Palestine) were administratively split between the Viyaelet of Beirut and the Sanjak of Jerusalem during the final years of Ottoman rule. After WWI, the Ottoman Empire lost land, including what are now the territories of modern Israel and Palestine, to the British. They were administered under the "British Mandate". The Brits decided that they wanted to split the Mandate into two parts, a homeland for the Jews and a homeland for the Arabs. British land, their choice. And while they could have legally just gone ahead and done it, they sought and received the approval of the United Nations to create the TWO new countries out of the Mandate lands. One of the few times that the US and Russia have agreed on anything. Now, both countries could have lived in peace and built strong modern nations. And the new nation of Israel said any Arabs living in their new country could stay, keep their land, and be citizens … which is why Israel is ~ 25% Arab today. However, the Muslims have hated and persecuted the Jews for 1,400 years. So five Muslim nations got together with the new Arab nation and with Arabs who had left Israel lured by the prospect of the Arabs winning the war. Together they attacked Israel on the first day of its legal existence, with the intention of killing the Jews and stealing their land. However … against all odds, they lost. And the Arabs who did not take Israel up on their offer to become citizens … … guess what … … they lost land when they lost the war. Welcome to history. But unlike every other group that has lost land in a war, unlike Mexico or Turkey or Paraguay or Germany, the Palestinians have the delusion that they somehow have a right to the land that they lost in a war that they themselves started. Sorry … history doesn't work like that. Lose the war, lose the land, and if you started the war, you have nothing to whine about. In any case, my point is simple. Both modern countries, Israel and Palestine, were legally created out of British Mandate territory. Neither country is "illegitimate" or an "invader", or to be more accurate, if one is then both are, because they were both created in exactly the same way. And if the Palestinians hadn't been so hateful and greedy from day one of the yeo new countries, they could be living in paradise today under their own government. Thus endeth the history of historical reality. w.
