@Mac_WiFi I’m doing great, thriving, if you will. Thank you for taking a chance on me. Your name comes up at least once a month. Big shoes to fill to say the least. My feet are still growing- ha! Tell Santa I said hey, he likes you leave out beer and pizza!😎

How it was sold: We must secure these access points! How it was delivered: Keys in the lock.

@VascoFCosta @grcate @wirednot Almost found out the hard way what happens when you upgrade switches to support the number of AP's, PoE, future growth, etc... and almost forget to account for space, power and HVAC. I'm glad I found that out the easy way...

@grcate @wirednot All that and if the switches have enough power or if they are compatible with the PoE standard of the APs.

#WIFIQ 8/16/18 to do WiFi at a large venue certainly involved APs, but what else has to be considered? You will be graded on creativity, completeness, and critical thought.

@JustDoWiFi I always out AP and the last bit of the mac address. This way, I know its an AP, I can find it in the controller, switch, etc... I can do a sh int status and see if the mac is the same as the description, in case anyone steals a port or swaps out an AP without telling me

WLAN Engineers: Do you populate the switch port description with the AP name, or just leave it as "AP"? If you use hostname, do you do it manually? Do you have a tool to scrape CDP neighbors and scripts it into port descriptions?

@wirednot Neither. I assess others networks & provide recommendation for them to implement. I rarely get to see the results of my work which is a shame. I would like to own a network for a while so I can better understand the challenges and therefore make realistic recommendations.

#WIFIQ 5/29/18 Do you “own” the networks you manage or do you manage other people’s networks? Do you like that or is the grass greener on the other side? If you are in the biz of building them and handing off, how do you know they stand the test of time?

@VidurBatra @wirednot Yes, the WiFi... because those little lights aren’t enough for me to navigate a dark room without me hurting myself.

@wirednot Wifi sends out at 1 of a 1 billionth watt. The night bulb in the room is around 4 watts. So we know which is more harmful for the body :)

#WIFIQ 5/30/18 By request: Occasionally people get concerned about WiFi and health issues. What resources do you use/point people to? How do you deal with people insisting WiFi is removed/disabled? Are your efforts effective? How often do you encounter this?

@wirednot I then explained that after 20 years of up close and personal exposure nothing had fallen of of me yet, but the parasitic twin I had growing off my shoulder cleared itself up!

@wirednot I had to talk a doctor off the ledge about an AP in her office. I tried to explain that this is non ionizing radiation (radio) and that I would be more concerned with the possible sunburn she could get from sitting in front of her office window. She really wasn’t buying it.

@wirednot Standardized roaming is like a date with Christie Brinkley... in my dreams. Honestly, I would be happy with clients that not only listed TX power settings but maybe had configurable settings... salt to taste. If I could noodle around in there, that would be sweet!

#WIFIQ 5/28/18 What Metrics (e.g. RSSI, RCPI, SNR, SNIR, Retries, Data Rate) would you like to see clients use to trigger roaming? Should roaming be standardized?

#WIFI 5/17/18 How often do you have to do point-to-point bridging along with “regular” Wi-Fi? How do you know when it’s time to upgrade these links? What sort of maintenance/monitoring goes into them? Any horror stories related to risky mounting situations/tough alignments?
