@practicalgolf @Nevstasic Were the benefits equal between those who walk and those who don’t? If not, walking not golf is associated with life expectancy. But questions remain. Do golfers who walk differ from golfers who don’t in ways that might affect life expectancy?

A Swedish study found the death rate for golfers was 40% lower, corresponding to a 5-year increase in life expectancy. This was based on 300k golfers who mostly walk the course. The benefits were seen across all age groups. The lowest rate of death was observed among the players with the lowest handicaps 😳

@PMatzko You seem to be talking about "within a generation or two" as you mention on the Substack. Seems plausible but how much do we know about political views over the lifecycle? You might think there would be panel studies starting around 1955 but...

@PMatzko Is that true of who actually turns out to vote? At least who is estimated to do so?

@LouStagner Things are where they are because of markets and prices. What is the next use of land in a major city? There are two very expensive country clubs in NW Washington DC USA surrounded by million dollar houses. They are unusual. Most golfers want less expensive courses.

Why shouldn't golf courses be in major cities? When is a city no longer considered major? What other things do not belong in major cities?
Hayden@the_transit_guy

@freewilllyyyy I literally could care less. Play golf all you want, but I don’t think they should take up valuable real estate in major cities. My uncle works in the gold industry and I couldn’t care less, but be honest about how much land it takes up and where it’s located

@M_feeney Trade comment true and interesting. Prompts question: how does the Constitution limit use of power in relation to other nations? War power. Depends on your view of “executive power” grant I guess. Others?

These are a few (of the many) reasons why classical liberals should resist use of the term "Madisonian" and reject strict adherence to the US Constitution: -As drafted it allows for local illiberalism -It makes it too easy for Congress to restrict trade -It's too hard to change
Charles Murray@charlesmurray

I've settled on Madisonian, believing that the US constitutional structure (including the capacity to pass amendments) was as good as it gets, and that the repudiation of it during 1937-1943 was a disaster.
