They called Hồ Chí Minh a tyrant. A man who spent decades in exile, in prison, living in poverty, organizing resistance to colonial occupation. Who wrote poetry. Who quoted the American Declaration of Independence in Vietnam’s own declaration of independence, word for word, because he believed those words meant something. He believed America, of all countries, would understand what it meant to fight a colonial power for the right to self-governance. America sent bombers. Think about the layers of that humiliation. A Vietnamese revolutionary quoted Jefferson and Madison to appeal to American values. And the American response was napalm. Because it was never about freedom. It was never about democracy. It was about control. It was about which countries get to be self-determining and which countries exist to serve someone else's interests. It was about making sure that when Washington said "jump," the government in Hanoi would ask "how high." Hồ Chí Minh was not willing to ask that question. So they tried to destroy him. They destroyed nothing. He died in 1969, before the war ended. And the country he gave his life for won anyway. His face is still on the currency. Theirs is not.

Trump’s media henchman doesn’t realize this but what millions of people take away from this is that they SHOULD watch PBS and listen to NPR and turn to independent media. Americans don’t like the government telling them what they can and cannot watch.
Acyn@Acyn

FCC Chair: Trump is winning. Look at the results—PBS and NPR defunded. Joy Reid, Sleepy-Eyed Chuck Todd, Jim Acosta, John Dickerson are gone. Colbert is leaving. CBS is under new ownership, and soon enough CNN will have new ownership as well.

The number of obvious lies in this from Rubio suggests he’s feeling actual pressure. He claims here Cuba wants oil for free and the U.S. isn’t blocking it. Not true. Cuba buys oil. Mexico and Russia can use this clip to justify selling oil to Cuba.

America imposes 60 year embargo on Cuba: “Why is Cuba poor?” America imposes sanctions on Venezuela and does a coup: “Why doesn’t communism work?” Israel blows up Gazan infrastructure including airport & blocks development: “Why isn’t Gaza Dubai?” CIA imports drugs & GOP opposes gun regs: “why is there urban crime?” Bipartisan duopoly criminalizes protests: “Where have all the protestors gone?”

Rick Scott says our trip to bring humanitarian aid to Cuba was “disgusting.” The policies he supports starve the people, block all fuel imports, and cause severe shortages in the healthcare system. We did our best to take all his questions, but it doesn't seem like he liked the answers.

This is from a gas station in Phoenix yesterday: $6.49 for a gallon of gas. All because Trump started war with no plan and no idea how it would affect everyday Americans. I'm fighting to suspend the federal gas tax to bring families some relief, but what they really need is a president focused on lowering their costs.

Where is Congress? It’s absolutely insane that one reckless man can escalate this affecting all of us and other nations in the region without Congress doing anything at all.

Trump declares almost 50% of Americans to be public enemy number one – right after Iran. This is no longer politics; this is open civil war from the mouth of a president. Anyone who brands half of their own people – millions of ordinary Americans who simply vote differently – as the "greatest enemy" hasn't understood America; Trump hates it. This rhetoric isn't "tough," it's treacherous. It destroys precisely what makes America strong: the idea that Americans, despite all their differences, are one nation. Trump has just proven that he doesn't want to be president of all Americans – but merely the leader of a faction that considers the rest the enemy. Insane. And extremely dangerous.

@anthonyzenkus The mob was bad for Cuba and they should have been removed. However, prostitution is now legal. This is evil.

Cuba 1950s was a Mafia-controlled Epstein Island where women were forced into prostitution by organized criminals who promised poor women from the countryside work as dancers or maids. At one point upwards of 30,000 Cuban women were exploited in the sex trade. 1950s Cuba, run by the American Mafia led by Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano and Santo Trafficante, Jr. in conjunction with dictator Fulgencio Batista and backed by the CIA - was a decadent paradise for US elites; business moguls, politicians and celebrities who went to Havana to partake in gambling as well as sex parties often arranged by the Mafia, giving the mob blackmail to guarantee allegiance from investors and US politicians alike. One of Castro's first moves after the revolution was to make prostitution illegal. And instead of punishing sex workers and trafficking victims, the revolutionary government offered them re-education and job training. Needless to say, the "customers' weren't happy when Castro and the revolutionaries from the mountains stormed into Havana on New Year's Eve 1958 and sent the mob and Batista packing.

Trump's oil blockade in Cuba has caused a worsening humanitarian crisis-- cutting Cubans off from power, food, health care, and clean water.    I am heartened by the solidarity and bravery of the courageous people on the Nuestra América Convoy, arriving in Cuba to bring critical aid directly to the people.     I stand with the global community demanding that the Department of State and Department of Defense ensure their safety and security.
