@Nic_Sentient @JoshBabarinde He met Alan Bates on 7 October 2010, following a second request for a meeting. Davey certainly didn’t respond quickly enough or seriously enough to the red flags waved, and relied too much on the advice of officials. But in that respect he was no different to other PO ministers.

@Nic_Sentient @JoshBabarinde Ed Davey was Post Office minister for less than 2 years during the 20+ years of the post office scandal. But he was responsible for it? Grow up.

Thank you @jackiepearcey for flying the flag for the @LibDems in the Gorton and Denton by-election. We need brave people like you who stand defiant in the face of division and populism.

The former British home secretary and buddhist daughter of a Kenyan descendant of Goan Catholics, and a Mauritian Hindu descendent of Tamil, born in Harrow, studied in New York, married to a Jewish South African who lived In Israel says multiculturalism has failed.
Suella Braverman@SuellaBraverman

Multiculturalism has utterly failed. Britain is sadly losing its grip of our cultural heritage, traditions, Christian values, sense of history and unity. Too many politicians have shied away from dealing with this crisis of confidence that many millions of British people feel. We need to fix the problems of poor integration.

@campbellclaret I think the problem with @ChrisMasonBBC is that he’s been promoted beyond his abilities, lacks the intellect and seriousness required for the job, and so resorts to easy soundbites and tabloid journalism. Would be more at home on @GBNEWS

@JamesHarvey2503 Presumably these were under the laws introduced by the Tories to limit demonstrations when they were in office.

🚨 The UK IS NOW ARRESTING PEOPLE FOR PROTESTING WITHOUT PERMISSION. Two individuals, including Steve Dand from Unite the Right, have just been ARRESTED for organising a MARCH (protest) WITHOUT PERMISSION. This is not China nor North Korea. This is the UK, where people are being arrested for protesting.

@montie In the grand panoply of apologies owed by one political entity to another, this comes next to bottom in the list of priorities, just above Handforth Parish Council and Jackie Weaver.

I am 56 today, and admittedly a little old school when it comes to football, but no one will EVER convince me that a minor hair pull and a sarcastic clap is enough reduce a team to nine men. I despair about Premier League football.

Not often I am on the same page as @Telegraph but happy to see that my @RestIsPolitics overseas politician of the year Maia Sandu takes their crown too. Really looking forward to interviewing her for LEADING soon. This is a good read about a good woman doing remarkable things in the face of enormous challenges
The Telegraph@Telegraph

🇲🇩 Maia Sandu is the Telegraph’s World Leader of the Year. The Moldovan president has spent the year defying the Kremlin turning her country into Europe's front line of democracy, all while earning less than £1,000 a month. Ed Davey was paid £833 an hour - over £220,000 in total - to advise lawyers who were acting for the Post Office. (Taking taxpayers’ money to persecute petrified, innocent people.) As Postal Affairs minister, Davey refused to believe Alan Bates about Post Office bullying. But happy to jump into the trough after. Despicable. #ResignEdDavey

Why should I have to pay for some migrant to get a free house when I can’t afford to move out Why should I have to pay for primarily Pakistani or Bangladeshi families to have 6 kids and not work, when I can’t afford one Why should I have to pay for someone with ADHD to get a free BMW they don’t need, when I can’t afford a car Why is it right that for the majority of young people, we have to go to work - to pay for others who don’t work, to live a better life than what we can afford The system is broken We need to bring back fairness.

Yesterday, I joined with @crisis_uk and 15 other organisations calling for the Chancellor to restore housing benefit to match the true cost of rent. The budget next week is the Chancellor's opportunity to lift people out of poverty and prevent homelessness.
Crisis@crisis_uk

It was great to be joined in Westminster today by @PaulaBarkerMP @EllieChowns @switherdenMP & @wendychambLD, showing cross-party support for restoring housing benefit to cover the true cost of rent. This would prevent homelessness across Great Britain. The Chancellor must act.
