This is absolutely beyond words! The @attorneygeneral Richard Hermer needs to be FIRED immediately and the @metpoliceuk needs to ARREST HIM!!! I cannot sufficiently articulate the level of visceral rage I’m feeling right now. In my book, this is treason of the worst sort. Labour is simply refusing to answer questions about the people Keir Starmer has appointed to powerful positions. Jonathan Powell was handed the role of the PM’s Envoy to an overseas territory - as well as the UK’s National Security Advisor. It should not be a difficult question to answer as to whether or not he has security clearance. Something is seriously wrong with this Government.

Someone in Jonathan Powell’s position would normally be vetted to the highest level as a matter of routine. I’m not claiming he hasn’t been, but it’s striking that ministers refuse to say clearly what process was followed and when. You don’t put someone at the heart of national security without the most rigorous vetting. If that’s happened, they should be able to say so in plain English; if they can’t, people are entitled to ask why.
