The Salvation Army is not an actually charity as you would normally think of one; it is the Evangelical arm of the Universal Christian Church. In Newfoundland, it has some of the largest Churches in many communities.
Just as many Methodist and other Churches in the US send missionaries to Africa to preach the Lord's message and help those in the most need - this Church sees that need most in places like NYC and California and Miami, Austin and Dallas and Kansas City and Oklahoma City.
Their US leader of "missionaries" holds the title of Commander and in 2025 had a salary around $81K.
