Judge John Lyke's catastrophicly poor judgement is the reason why Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew is dead and another @Chicago_Police Officer is fighting for his life. He could have detained this violent repeat offender. He chose to set him free. The offender went on to murder. And this wasn't a nuanced case. Anyone with even a modicum of common sense should have agreed with the state's attorney's "rigorous objections" to release, given his extensive criminal history. I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. The SAFE-T Act provision allowing for violent criminals to be set free on electronic monitoring - and worse yet, with two days off the monitoring grid - must be repealed. It is a massive failure that has led to violent deaths. One death as a result of this, is one too many. Violent criminals should NOT be eligible for electronic monitoring. How many more innocent people have to die before this absurd policy is undone? Police arrest criminals. We finally have a state's attorney who prosecutes criminals. And then, instead of all judges protecting society from those criminals, some judges let them right back out to reoffend. And there's never accountability for those judges. There is seriously something so wrong about this.

Maher leaned in: The Top 1% pays 42% of all federal income taxes. The Top 10% pays 76%. We have the "soaking" part down. The money is being taken. So why aren't the results showing up at the bottom?” Because the "Machine" isn't a pipeline for the poor—it’s a filter for the middleman. The money goes in, the bureaucracy grows, and the problem stays the same. Soaking the rich is the distraction. The "Machine" eating the proceeds is the crime. 🏛️💸 Who is actually getting the check? Thousands more jobs coming from major development projects. That’s not rhetoric. That’s impact. But instead of learning from that success, some politicians would rather demonize it. Because tearing people down is easier than building anything yourself. So let’s be very real: If Ken Griffin and firms like his leave New York… who replaces 2,500 high-paying jobs? Who replaces billions in tax revenue? Who funds the services you claim to care about? A government-run grocery store? That’s not economic policy. That’s fantasy. And to @ZohranKMamdani What have you actually built? How many jobs have you created? How many people depend on you for a paycheck? What real risk have you ever taken? We need builders. Not people who attack them.

It can be reinvested and compound. All philanthropy ultimately comes from business. That's where the profits are. Where does all the taxes come from? It ultimately comes from business as well. This is the engine that's lifting humanity out. The entrepreneurs are the drivers of that engine. Somebody like Elon Musk, he gets a very, very, very tiny sliver of the value that he creates for the whole world."

Beyond tragic but this story doesn’t pass the smell test. People don’t just ambush and shoot random strangers - without robbing them - and then run away. My guess is either the witnesses are lying about what happened, the shooter knew the victim, or it was mistaken identity. Regardless, how unimaginably awful for her family and friends. 💔
