Nothing after this line matters. There is no reason, ever, under any circumstances, in any universe, where it is appropriate for a man to make this statement about his wife. True or not. With or without her permission. This is her story, not “theirs.” THIS is what is wrong with Evangelicalism.

My wife was formerly promiscuous. I was a virgin. She was then radically born-again. Committed to church, evangelized constantly, Puritan books in her bedroom, prayer journals, grief over past sexual sin, etc. We got to know each other well for over a year, dated for four months, engaged for two and a half, and didn't sin sexually with one another. Our first kiss with each other was at the altar on our wedding day (reaction pic attached!). We've been married for over five years now, and she's been the most wonderful and godly wife, mother to our three children, and homemaker you could imagine. She's more pure than most virgins, as biblical purity has less to with past sins (though they certainly matter) and more to do with one's current posture of the heart and daily decisions to honor the Lord (Matt. 5:8). We're far too quick to forget the story of the woman labeled as a known "sinner" (likely a prostitute) in Luke 7:36-50 who was washing Jesus' feet with her tears while kissing them too. The Pharisees were shocked that Jesus let a public sinner do this. Jesus responded with a parable about debts being forgiven and ended with this powerful conclusion: "Her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little" (Luke 7:47). Everyone seems to highlight the benefits of virginity, and it certainly is a blessing. But we forget to highlight the benefits of being forgiven much as well. My wife knows the depths of Jesus' forgiveness more than most people, enabling her to more easily live out a life of passionate love for her Savior. A woman or man's past sexual sin matters. But what matters far more when it comes to deciding who to marry is if the person is truly born again, if their repentance is real, if they truly have a heart for Christ, if they truly follow Jesus and obey his commands. "God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence. It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us — our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, — in order that, as it is written: 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'" (1 Cor. 1:27-31) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!" (2 Cor. 5:17)

koh amar YHWH qedosh yisra’el veyotzero ha’otiyyot she’aluni al-banai ve‘al-po‘al yadai tetzavvuni Isaiah 45:11 “Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him: Ask me of things to come; will you command me concerning my children and the work of my hands?” I love Isaiah 45:11… growing up in a king James version only Church allowed me to hear it mispreached dozens of times. It is not an invitation to command God. It is a rebuke of people who presume to question or instruct Him. Translated, You may inquire of me. But you do not command me.

1. “Rebuke our disease” Luke 4:39 (King James Version) “And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.” Jesus rebuked sickness directly. Also: Luke 9:1 (King James Version) “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.” ⸻ 2. “Cast out our problems” Believers were explicitly commanded to cast things out. Mark 16:17 (King James Version) “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.” Also: Matthew 17:20 (King James Version) “For verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Mountains represent problems or obstacles. ⸻ 3. “Speak into our trials” Jesus specifically taught speaking to situations. Mark 11:23 (King James Version) “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” Faith is expressed by speaking. ⸻ 4. “Claim our success” Scripture repeatedly teaches confession and expectation of victory. 2 Corinthians 4:13 (King James Version) “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.” Also: Joshua 1:8 (King James Version) “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night… for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” ⸻ 5. “Demand God to do something” Scripture actually invites bold requests. Isaiah 45:11 (King James Version) “Thus saith the Lord… concerning the work of my hands command ye me.” Also: Hebrews 4:16 (King James Version) “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

It’s absolutely important that people know the truth about sin, God, redemption, conversion, and the Christian life. But that doesn’t automatically make TULIP the measuring stick of truth. Scripture defines those truths, not a 16th-century framework. The Bible teaches human responsibility alongside God’s initiative. People are genuinely called to repent and believe (Acts 17:30). Christ died for the world, not a secret subset (John 3:16, 1 John 2:2). Grace is resistible, because people are warned not to harden their hearts (Hebrews 3:12–15). Faith is not a work that earns salvation, but the God-ordained means of receiving it (Ephesians 2:8–9). So yes, truth matters. But the truth Scripture emphasizes is that God lovingly offers salvation for all, genuinely invites all, and holds people accountable for their response. That’s not a denial of grace. That’s the biblical tension between divine sovereignty and human responsibility. Preach the Word

You don’t have to tiptoe through the tulip once you stop and smell the ROSES pastor! 🌹 R • Responsibility of man God commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). Commands imply real responsibility and real ability to respond (Deut 30:19, Josh 24:15). O • Offer of salvation to all Christ died for the world, not a preselected few (John 3:16, 1 John 2:2, 1 Tim 2:4–6). The invitation is genuinely universal (Isaiah 55:1, Rev 22:17). S • Salvation conditioned on faith People are saved through trusting Christ, not by being secretly regenerated first (John 20:31, Romans 10:9–13). Faith is the means God ordained (Eph 2:8). E • Enabled by grace, not coerced by it Grace draws, convicts, and enables, but can be resisted (John 12:32, Acts 7:51, Matt 23:37). Love that cannot be refused is not love. S • Security in Christ Believers are secure as they continue trusting Christ (John 10:28–29, Romans 8:38–39), but Scripture still warns against unbelief (Hebrews 3:12). Assurance rests in abiding faith, not fatalism.

Is it important that people know the truth about sin? The truth about God? The truth about redemption? The truth about their own conversion? The truth about the Christian life? Then TULIP is important.
