Time to create an alternative code process where we can align cost, energy efficiency and decarbonization, without relying on the whims of a board who make decisions in a black box.

The @IntlCodeCouncil just trashed two years of work that almost 50 volunteers each hundreds of hours. It’s a broken process from an institution that can’t be reformed.

Why: After a calm start to the campaign, things have recently heated up, and we’re hearing that gas industry opposition may be bussing in folks to derail the vote. We need as many supporters in the hearing room as possible to counteract the opposition.

What: BAAQMD will be voting on the nation’s first zero-emission appliance standards! If adopted, the policy will phase out the sale of polluting gas furnaces and water heaters starting in 2027 and enable widespread electric heat pump adoption in the Bay Area.
