A very proud moment for me as I was elected, not just to Essex County Council as a @reformparty_uk councillor last week, but also chosen as the council’s Deputy Leader last night, unopposed. I’m in this to do my bit to change politics and to help bring Britain back from the brink and in doing so set an example to my four children. My grandfather was a highly respected businessman and Essex councillor in the 1960’s and 1970’s also and if he were still around today I hope that he’d agree that I’m upholding the Quirk name in his honour. I’m sat in my first Essex County Council meeting on Monday morning, listening to a councillor induction presentation. ‘Any questions?’ asks an officer. A hand goes up. ‘Yes’ says a recently elected Labour member. ‘Do I get a pension as a councillor?’. His first question was about how much money he gets. Not procedure, or meeting dates or where the loos are… but how much cash he can grab. Same old Labour.
