I used to think you couldn’t put a price on stupidity. Turns out you can. Recall that we import more from the EU than we export to it.

It is hard to believe that Labour is even considering paying £1bn a year to the EU. Has everyone forgotten that we buy more from them than they do from us, and have done ever since we joined the Common Market? If anything, they should be paying us! (Actually they shouldn’t. Free trade should be just that, free)And our exports to them post Covid are broadly on trend for pre-Brexit levels. The restraints on growth are down to appalling tax and regulatory policies, as well as some global headwinds. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

@DavidDavisMP @bonnie54_uk It completely destroys Labour’s argument that the family business inheritance tax changes, the employers National Insurance rise, VAT on school fees and ending the winter fuel allowance were about fixing the economy. It was all class war ideology. There’s money if they want it.

@DavidDavisMP @kath21_field The idea that the U.K. should pay £1bn a year for access to the single market is grand larceny on a huge scale.

@DavidDavisMP Tell Brussels to sod off. This is money for nothing. Same with Paris. Millions to them for not stopping boats. Same with Kyiv, billions to Zelenski to fund a war that is nothing to do with us. How much of British working people's money is our government going to give away?

There should have been no divorce bill. The EU was not set up to be the globalist authoritarian dictatorship it has become. They have shown their hand on multiple occasions, why on earth would we want to jump back into the inferno... End the @EU_Commission Rid us of @vonderleyen

Exclusive from @oliver_wright Brussels has told Sir Keir Starmer that Britain will have to make annual payments into European budgets for the first time since Brexit, as part of the prime minister’s reset with the bloc European negotiators have made it clear that paying the cash, expected to amount to about £1 billion a year, is a condition of further access to the EU’s single market They want Starmer to make the concession in principle at a summit between the prime minister and European leaders this summer before detailed negotiations on more integration. “If the UK wants further integration they must ‘pay to play’,” one European diplomat said. “That is not unusual.” thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…
