I don’t think Stoke on Trent stn is depressing at all: at its entrance is an incredible moving piece of architecture which few people actually realise exists at all. The stone arch – through which all passengers pass - is a memorial to the 152 North Staffordshire Railway employees who died in the 1914-18 War. The company & employees paid for it, and its installation - honouring those who stood and fell - was one of the final acts of the independent company before it was consumed by the LMS Railway in 1923. Six further men, identified since the end of WW1, have also now had their names added to the roll of honour.

@Jono_WEC @ChimeWhistle There’s no blame to be had. It’s allowed to have more than one train on a platform. The Alderley Edge and the Stoke are always on the same platform with only 6 minutes departure time between them.

A major Northern station has two trains departing from the same platform within five minutes of each other. The station is the originating place for both trains. If the rear train was open, there would undoubtedly be many passengers joining the wrong train and then blaming staff.

@ChimeWhistle Manchester Piccadilly. Alderley Edge front unit- Stoke on Trent rear unit. Doors on the Stoke service always remain closed until the Alderley Edge service has cleared the platform.

@ChimeWhistle Also passengers for Crewe train still wind up on the Chester train, though it's not that bad as they arrive at Stockport at the same time.

@ChimeWhistle It's Manchester Piccadilly, Platform 8, Crewe via Stockport and Chester via Altrincham. I should know as I'm one of the suckers left waiting for the latter to open its doors. I've made both Northern and NR aware but they're blaming each other.

@ohforchuckssake @starkksjoon To be fair, if the signs didn't exist and I didn't know it was Salford, I could walk/take the bus (big up the X43) from the city centre to my friend's house in Higher Broughton, and not notice I've left Manchester and entered a different city. Agree re the small town

@starkksjoon I once read a fic that used "Manchester" and "Greater Manchester" interchangeably, and referred to both as "a small town near London" and as someone from Manchester (technically Salford but it's the same thing really isn't it) I found that greatly offensive.

I get why Mappa dropped out of YOI but I think people’s resentment towards the studio is completely justified. This is the studio that started with Kids on The Slope, whose fame was founded on series like YOI & Banana Fish. And look at their productions since 2020.

@apple_geoph All mainlines were supposed to be electrified under the modernisation plan. However, the BR board decided to order production level numbers of experimental trains, wasting their money as many didn't work. Only the WCML had it implemented properly.
