I’ve shared this before, but it’s worth sharing again. A brief word to seminary students/aspiring pastors: 92% of all churches in the US have an average weekly worship attendance of below 250. 68% of them have an average of below 100. 31% are below 50. Facts: the likelihood of you pastoring a large church of 250+ is extremely slim. This means you must adjust your expectations immediately and do all you can now to learn how to pastor small to mid-size churches, many of which are in dire need of revitalization. This may not be the world of pastoral ministry you want to live in, but rest assured that it is indeed the world you live in. Invest now in developing a love for God’s Word, an intimate care for God’s people, a passion to lead in evangelism and discipleship, and an others-focused mentality that is prepared to serve in hard ways. All while most likely serving as the only full-time staff person in the church, or even co-vocationally. The task will be hard. But with your Chief Shepherd, it will not be impossible. And the reward will be great. Prepare accordingly. “And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory” (1 Peter 5:4).

Occasionally, a pastor needs to sit for a few days under the preached Word, fellowship, and sing heartily to the Lord with other like-minded brothers—all for the soul’s refreshment. No better place to do it than the Coram Deo Conference. Appreciate @ClearlyReformed for hosting!

@CalebWilson2025 Thanks for taking the time to sign my son’s shirt pregame at the Louisville game. I was so impressed that you sign for children first. We loved watching you in Chapel Hill, and we know you’ll have a long and successful NBA career. Thanks for all the memories this season. GO HEELS

The most important thing a pastor will do in ministry is not write a book, speak at a conference, host a podcast, preach in a seminary chapel, or lead a parachurch organization. The most important thing he will do is shepherd his flock through prayer & the ministry of the Word.

@JordonWillard Highly, but unfortunately it was taken out of print. Best explanation of the kingdom/covenant scheme in the Bible.

I'd like to be the 1st to congratulate our 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball National Champ! It'll be Arizona, Michigan, Duke, Iowa St, UConn, Purdue, Houston, Gonzaga, Michigan St, BYU, Louisville, or Bama. How do I know? Every champ since 2004 has been top 12 in the Week 6 AP Poll

Pastor, be careful not to love the movement of your people more than you love the people. Just as Jesus loves us right now and not some future version of us, so also we are called to shepherd the flock of God that is among us now, not the flock we hope to have among us later.

I continue to discover each day that these are the two most difficult truths in the Bible for us to believe: 1. That I really am as wicked as the Bible says I am. 2. That I really am as deeply loved by God as the Bible says I am.
