Nearly 40% of DC residents don’t have a car. They may have waived the fines, but let’s please shovel our walkways in front of homes/condos/apts and businesses. If we just wait on Mother Nature, we’ll be walking in the street until March.

A 12-year-old girl was hit by a car that had 94 unpaid tickets worth $19,770 from D.C. traffic cameras. Victims of traffic violence in D.C. say the city needs to get drivers who rack up tickets off the roads. wapo.st/3znzICA

There's something that's been wearing on me recently... It’s what feels like the ever-constant presence of the little girl watching the game or waiting for the autograph and the frequent comment or insinuation that this is “the why”. Listen, she's not the why.

Heavier cars are safer for their drivers, but far deadlier for everyone else. This paper find that for every 1,000 pounds a car weighs over a Toyota Corolla, the chance of killing another person goes up by 46%! Heavier vehicles lead to 28k more US deaths. doi.org/10.1093/restud…

With today's hearing on bills to curb dangerous driving, I want to highlight troubling data we received in pre-hearing questioning. Here are the numbers of speeding violations, which validate every resident’s experience with how common speeding is.

AJ Merriman unraveled his 6-foot-2 frame on the turf, tucked his dreadlocks to fit on the disc’s surface and shut his eyes. On this Saturday night, his teammates on the D.C. Breeze, the city’s professional men’s ultimate team, were looking for a win over a regional rival. He had more at stake. wapo.st/3ORtz6H

I think a big issue is why people feel like WMATA “asking for money” is a thing - every city transportation department, public school district, sanitation department, whatever is always “asking for money” because it’s publicly funded. So is a transit agency.
Coalition for Smarter Growth@betterDCregion

🧵A number of folks have responded to our support for funding Metro’s $750 million gap, saying it seems @WMATA is always asking for money. There are a number of reasons they have to ask for funding every year. Some background:
