You can use different practices from different religions. Not doing so is stupid, and just identity politics bullshit.

I deeply detest people like this guy. He's an American "practicing pagan" who came to Finland to interview a folk music band named Noiduin. In his video, he said he hopes that people will "take something away" from it "for their own practice". As if different religious systems are just a grab bag you can appropriate and then cherry pick from. He came as a culture tourist to mine information about a dead religion that serious Finnish neopagans are trying to revive through serious institutions like Pielisen Tietäjäkeskus so he can make it into an accessory. The phrase "take something away for your own practice" struck me as symptomatic of a broader problem. Finnish folk religion isn't a collection of interchangeable spiritual accessories. For many of us, it's a fragile cultural inheritance that was almost entirely destroyed over the course of 800 years and only survived in fragments. It's now being painstakingly reconstructed by serious neopagans in serious institutions like the aforementioned Pielisen Tietäjäkeskus. I hope people come away with respect for the tradition itself, not just ideas they can transplant into unrelated belief systems. As a Finn, I'd encourage people interested in Baltic Finnic paganism to think about the difference between studying a tradition and extracting elements from it for personal spiritual use. Finnish pre-Christian religion isn't just "pagan content" waiting to be incorporated into eclectic practice. There are scholars here working seriously to reconstruct and preserve it as part of our cultural heritage. That context deserves to remain central.

Some contemporary “eclectic Pagans” pick and choose Gods and ceremonies as if they were shopping, with no commitment to any tradition.
