@kannbwx I’d put money on that spring wheat number is under 9 million.

U.S. wheat plantings come in lower than analysts expected across all categories. 2026 all wheat acres are set to hit an all-time low in records back to 1919. Spring wheat acres are seen at a 56-year low.

@Kyle_Olson_ Pushing 10 years on 100k acres and it just keeps getting better. Stay the course! You will change farms for generations to come. Appreciate what you’re doing down there!

Had a guy the other day reach and tell me that retail is running around saying that what we’re doing with Baseline and Next Level Ag labs isn’t “sustainable”. The same retailer recommends his growers use biology because the fertilizer is “tied up”.

With the recent increases in all forms of nitrogen, we may see a startling result. Increase yields by not over applying nitrogen. There I said it. More yield is lost from over applying, than under. Test for yourself.

#Hottake if u want to give crops the best chance at season long efficiency stop using starter fertilizer. It delays association and the plant has to work harder to maintain pathways in. Only exception is risk of fallow syndrome.

@joshgerik_82 Honestly on phos I don’t have a liquid pref. As long as balanced carbon comes with it. If it’s dry I prefer terranu. On K I like SOP or terranu k+ for dry and 0-0-13 or K ace in season.

@joshgerik_82 Loaded question. Which we address with our ferticast tool logic. But Ideally soil supplied. But when we need to supplement it’s a carbon sourced forms and timed so we maximize uptake for crop in question.

@laneallenw It’s result of an environment where AMF is depleted or not supported. That fungal network is needed to effectively get phos into the crop. Crops like canola and sugar beets will cause it in following crop. Chem fallow can as well. But it depends on previous crop and conditions.

@JoshMesser_Ag What is “fallow syndrome?” Asking as a guy who has lots of chemfsllow every year

@bigwehrm Here I’m talking corn. On wheat I don’t like to let that go to zero. Minimum 20 lbs p205 no matter what. Canola doesn’t need a ton as it pumps organic acids so well it can extract it. But we normally run 2-3 gal of carbon based liquid starter for it.

@JoeAilts @jbweston79 Pretty spot on. Everything we use/do to raise a crop has potential to create stress. We need to prevent or manage around that. Maximize photosynthesis and don’t waste what it produces

@jbweston79 @JoshMesser_Ag Josh will be better prepared to elaborate; here’s my simple answer: finite energy available. Carbon/sugar is energy. If spent on fighting stress, less available to pump into rhizoshpere below. Relatable metaphor: does feeling sick drain energy? Energy you’d use 2 b productive?

#WEOC has become a hot topic and for good reason. Does it matter? YES A LOT! When doesn’t it matter? When you’ve destroyed your soils physically (structure) or chemically (overloaded with fert). Both env have ⬇️ bio activity therefore WEOC has less influence.

@bkpeters2000 Much better. But still needs carbon and not excessive amounts. Associating is more critical around the seed so the spermisphere can build that relationship and then handoff to the rhizosphere.

@winnyfarmtech12 @McNeilBJ Still creates a hot band and roots in that area don’t build the association. Mix the fert throughout the strip

@JoshMesser_Ag @McNeilBJ Same could be said about in furrow tho to. Don’t go to hot and always have carbon in it and it’ll help.

@591actual That’s where fallow syndrome happens. Hence the exception in the tweet

@McNeilBJ As long as it’s carbon based and it spread throughout the strip. Hot bands of fertilizer are detrimental to association.

@jbweston79 Healthier crops is number 1 way to build it. That comes from lowering/splitting N applications up. Using composted/carbon sources with fertility. Reducing tillage but still maintaining good structure for living roots to explore. Cereal crops in rotation can really help too

@JoshMesser_Ag Can you point toward some resources that help growers understand what practices positively and negatively affect WEOC?
