Vaccine distribution should be based on risk assessment, not hierarchy. Everyone with exposure to Covid patients in ERs and ICUs - residents, fellows, attendings, nurses, respiratory therapists, janitors, etc. - should get a first round dose.

@D_Liebman My impression is that the 2nd dose is guaranteed after the first dose is given. Institutions know the number of vaccinations they can provide is half the number of doses they received.

Has there been discussion at organizations on how to prioritize 2nd vaccine doses, when the time comes? If supply is scarce, do the doses go preferentially to those completing their sequence, or to those who have yet to receive one?

Challenges brought by 2020 have led to renewed attention to and increasing awareness of healthcare disparities in the US. Data from a large national database shows us that ophthalmology is not exempt. We have a lot of work to do!
